No but my boys football team used to play matches at the school there at weekends. We live about 8kms away. Lovely houses and breathtaking views.

So no-one on EF got to vote? I imagine riche expats are very welcome there though?

Anyhow- what do people here feel about that vote re paying to avoid having a few asylum seekers in your village/town?

Re: Does anyone here live in Oberwil-Lieli?

Amazing that no-one seems to have an opinion here?

Imagine, say, Richmond, refusing to house a few asylum seekers and paying for the privilege, saying they 'would not fit in with the town' and say 'send them to the East End, Luton or Bradford instead

Sounds like a great idea, would happily pay to keep the riffraff out, not of course restricted to asylum seekers

I feel it's a great business decision. Much cheaper to pay the fine.

Have you taken a asylum seeker at your Jura home?

I am quite certain that there are a few members on here who wouldn't mind following suit! I think it's a bit rich! and really, they think all their women will be raped and their houses pillaged, it's not like hoards of Swedes are decending on Oberwil-Lieli.

No-one in Oberwil-Lieli was asked to take anyone into their own homes, were they?

We had an asylum seekers' centre in our village, which was then moved to another local village down the road- with many activites organised by the community. Thanks.

Why was it moved down the road? Seems like a way to avoid the fine

So you don't take any asylum seeker at your home but expect richemont, a private company owned by private individuals like yourself to take the asylum seekers that you support verbally but don't want them in your house ? It's a bit hypocritical wouldn't you think

It isn't if you're a hippy. Expect the rich to pay for ideals you've come up to while high

Re: Does anyone here live in Oberwil-Lieli?

I'm about to have 100 asylum seekers move in next door, all men, and I am not at all excited about it. The kanton didn't ask us about it, and gave us only 24 hours notice before an information meeting about the situation - I can only imagine it was strategy to prevent the neighborhood from organizing against it.

Will it change the neighborhood? Damn right it will. Our peaceful zero-crime area is already preparing. Barbed wire has been strung around the perimeter of the Schrebergarten fencing, which i don't find very aesthetically pleasing. Nothing of value will be left outside anymore - I'm planning on having to lock my car doors and lock the bicycles up outside, which I've never had to even think about before. We'll have to draw the blinds now, which we usually only ever had to do to keep the sun out, never had any privacy concerns before.

I don't have anything against asylum seekers per se, but wouldn't want to live next to 100 unemployed men from anywhere, under any circumstances.

That said, last night I went to the store and 3 Eritrean asylum seeker teenagers were harassing drivers by jumping in front of the moving cars in the parking lot, playing 'chicken', and then proceeded to throw all their trash on the ground as I walked by, and were laughing about it... not a good sign

The gemeinde says it's for maximum 1 1/2 years...we'll see. I'd gladly pay £100 to retain the peace and quiet of our little neighborhood.

Everybody supports the refugees but nobody wants them near them nor they want to pay their bills. The think the rich should do it because they have so much money ! Nothing communist about it lol
