So the guy was on fire! Even more reason to get him on the ground to smother the flames out before other people get hurt.
Quite like Scotland, where John Smeaton beat-up one of the Glasgow Airport terrorists (who also happened to be on fire), back in 2007.

When asked why he did it, he replied: "This is Glasgow. We'll just set aboot ye."

I don't know if I'd put it down to something purely cultural, but there are a fair amount of people in Scotland that are up for a fight...on a Friday night, after kicking out time

I find it disturbing that the attacker wasn't challenged....
If there is one concrete criticism of the Swiss that I admit, it is exactly this: The tendency not to intervene if they are not directly affected.

John Smeaton was proved to be a liar and actually had no direct involvement at all. He was there yes but he never laid a finger on any if them. Although his line to the camera was pretty funny.

Oh and it's not just a Friday night in Scotland!

Okay, I will admit, I've been on Sauchiehall Street on every night of the week and I've never failed to see someone itching for a scrap!

Terrible. I am ashamed to admit it, but there is a part of me that hopes that the attacker is in a great deal of pain.

First mistake, I'm sure there are nicer places in Syria than Sauchiehall street.

Doubtful, as he's dead.

"Der Täter der Zug-Attacke von Salez ist tot" (from the same article).

What's a 'typically Swiss name' for a bloke?
It depends if is meant 'clearly originating from here (german speaking CH) and not present elsewhere (except perhaps among a few rare emigrants)' or 'common in CH'. For the first, Zgraggen, Von Känel, Von Matt, Kuratli, Fleischli, Zuberbühler, perhaps Leuenberger and Hürlimann would be examples whereas the latter would include Meier, Müller, Huber, Ammann, Lehmann, Zimmermann, Schmid, etc.

On the BBC's commentary page after Mo Farah's epic third Olympic gold:

Read the comments on the BBC's post about Mo Farah's historic third gold medal. Ranging from "he should have run for Somalia" to "the British steal all the best people in the name of colonialism" to the ever delightful "I don't care how British you think you are, if you're not born here, you should go back where you came from"...

I despair.
Don't despair, Odile. Be realistic. The internet and idiots are not a great combination. Some are cynical trolls, looking for a rise from people like you. Some have mental health issues. Some are drunk. Heck, some may even be genuine racists -- don't discount that one. And one person can easily pretend to be 100 people.

Sitting there, despairing, is not just useless but is encouraging these idiots. Your 'despair' is precisely what they want to see.

Those are all surnames, and therefore apply to both blokes and girls.

Working face to face with clients, you can probably count on one hand the number of knobheads you meet in a week.

Working with clients over the phone, it can be several a day...until they realise you can report their behaviour to their employer

Ont t'internet, there are more knobheads than there are drops of water in the Atlantic.
