Bundessteur for SourceTax

Hi EF members,
I have 1 year renewable B permit and the tax is deducted at source since 2007.
Me and my wife are both working and always declaring tax and till last year never received any bills from the Federal Tax office.
This year however I received a hefty sum for the period of 2014.

Now I am confused and have the following questions:
  1. Is the Bundesteur also deducted from source for B Permit Holders
  2. If not why was I not charged the Federal tax since 2007 (The total family income did increase, but as far as my memory goes 2014 was not much different to 2012 and 2013)
Thanks for your help in solving my questions, this huge bill is now really bothering me.

Regards,
A

Re: Bundessteur for SourceTax

I would suggest to call the tax authorities to ask for clarifications, usually there is always a telephone number written on the top of their letter.
It can be that they realized that you should switch from taxes-at-source to tax declaration, as this is the case when you hit a minimum income per family per year (even if this sounds weird, they should have sent you the tax declaration form before the bill...).
Sometimes it can also be a mistake from their side... it happened once to me and I just solved it quickly through a phone call with them.
Good luck

Probably just a human mistake, tax at source should be definitely more than enough money to cover federal taxes, which get paid first out of it. A colleague of mine had a situation like yours - a single call to the tax office sorted things out.
