Consumer Spending in 2007

SwissInfo reports that the average household spend on consumer items rose to SFr5430 a month in 2007. And apparently the disposable income per household was SFr6275 a month.

This seems to be rather high. These figures don't include housing, right? What am I missing? Some fairly common tax minimisation method to do with mortgage interest relief? Or are some super-wealthy households skewing the figures?

What you may be missing is "average household" - it's not per head, but family where there could be 3 or 4 incomes...

That's part of the answer. Here's another article about gender balance in the workplace in 2007. 74.7% of women participated in the workforce, but 57.9% of them work part-time.

Still seems high to me . . .

Many women work 60/70/80/90% I guess this is counted as part time...

In particular, consumers spent more on housing, furnishings, travel, entertainment and recreation
I think there are on average 1.3 earners in a household but can't confirm this right now.
