Re: politicians attempt to ban 'killergames'

On a semi related note politicians have recommended to vote down a initiative to take military guns out of homes. http://www.20min.ch/news/schweiz/sto...walt--21296652

One of the reasons is it would reduce it's soliders personal responsibilty....

Hmm the politicians don't trust it's soliders to tell the difference between reality and virtual reality but they trust them to keep guns under their beds 24/7 hhmmmm. I'm I the only one to find this a pretty twisted logic?

Nope.

I made the mistake of buying a computer game once - Lord of the Rings Online - Geez - how boring it was to "kill 300 worms" or "300 shrews in the Shire" but that didn't mean I went outside my apartment and started looking for wildlife to destroy.

I thought that Switzerland had a fairly low incidence of gun crime and that this was one of the reasons why. I mean you don't go picking fights or waving your gun around if almost everyone that you see and that sees you a.) has a gun and b.) knows how to use it fairly well.

I know that I would feel much safer in my country (USA) if everyone who possessed/owned a firearm was required to actually know how to use and take care of it.

Nah it's just the youth here seem to take the english example over the yanks and have knifes as their weapon of choice.

I'm sure I could find 5 reports of army guns used in suicides/murders in Switzerland within 5 min I'm pretty sure you couldn't find one where playing a violent computer game caused a murder in Switzerland.

I'm not planning to turn this into a pro/con discussion about guns at home.

I just find it strange it's citizens apparently can't be trusted to player computer games without getting the idea to cause a massacre but they can be trusted to have a gun under their bed 24/7 without getting any ideas

Yes, but I guess my point was that you could find that in an major city in the USA fairly easily as well.

Of course, I completely agree with your comment about the mental stability of people with regard to video games versus guns. I have no idea where such stupidity comes from.
