do we need to ban black in every language? As a word? Adjective?
I'm guessing these sweets are black? Look like this? www.negrocafe.com/default_en.html - let's ban coffee too... | | The following 2 users would like to thank Boxman for this useful post: | |

No, let's not ban coffee. Let's draw a line. And let that line be here: | Quote: | | | | | do we need to ban black in every language? As a word? Adjective?

Black penis indeed, it's just the French promoting racial stereotypes.

Yeh! People are generally racist, we are still a very much tribal species and it in human nature to be fearful of skrĉlinge or strangers. This has been going on since we started to bang rocks together, the monkeys in the other tree would steal our females and food and our recourses. This is the ground Zero of out aggression to members of the same species.
As I say we are tribal and it is a case of "our tribe Yeh! Your tribe Booo!" the rest is simply cosmetics.
A single stranger is made welcome, we will snigger at their strange customs and think their silly believes and weird views strange but all in all they will be left alone. However as more and more come into the tribe a critical mass will be reached and we will see the first stirrings of hatred, us and them, it is a pity but it seems that we are mentally not much more evolved then our distant ancestors, maybe we have even degenerated.
No amount of kumbayah singing and PC wishing it was not so will get us over this, at the end of the day we are the monkey´s with machine guns and typewriters.

| | | Re: 'Negroe' sweets | Quote: | | | | | It is probably only offensive to you. and other whites. Cause everyone is trying to be politically correct.
Im sure a black person wouldnt stand still and think "well damn im offended" how dare they call candy negrowhatever | | | | | No. It's not offensive to me. I'm not easily offended.
I'm arguing with your logic that just because it's a sweet you can call it something nasty. Following this line you could call a sweet 'F**kc**tn****rt**t bonbons' and that would be ok.
The logic is that you can call it that because people probably won't be offended by it. Simple.
As has been covered elsewhere in this thread, the word 'negro' has been slowly dropped from use elsewhere, so the fact that it persists in some languages and cultures can look suspect.

I've been called a Paddy before on many occasions. Is that Racist?
Can I bring to court any institutions or company's or bars which use the term "Paddys Day" when referring to March 17th?

| | | Re: 'Negroe' sweets | Quote: | | | | | Are you seriously equating the discrimination between the Irsh and black people? | | | | | I'm following your logic here, what little there is. You say that the use of the word Negro, meaning black, to describe a product that is black, is disgraceful, intolerant, and racist. So, it follows that use of a degrading term (ie. Paddy) in any context, even it's correct usage, should be frowned upon.
Anyway, what's the difference? Racism is Racism, Isn't it? What's the difference between oppression of people of African descent, and people of Celtic descent?
Or is it that you're just one of these knee-jerk PC muppets, who wants to bubble wrap the world in case some poor unfortunate bumps their toe?
And we equate one thing to another, not between.
