But that was a few years ago though.

I agree. They should be called African Americans so as not to offend.

It would be interesting to know what kind of sweets exactly have gotten your PC-nerve aroused. Could be that it doesn't mean what you think it means...
Have a look at this for a laugh at some epic translation fails: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/busin...7394/index.htm
On the other hand, I remember being quite astonished to find "Negerbrot" (which is exactly what you might think it translates as) in Austria, designating large bars of chocolates with peanuts.

Reminds me of a book by Bill Bryson I recently read...His grandma used to give him money to buy "n***** babies" and she used to shout that word out loud in front of everybody. He became embarrassed and told her they were now called "liquorice babies" so next time grandma comes along she shouts "go and get me some of the liquorice n******"...

They will remain Mohrenköpfe. As there is no negative or insulting thing in the word Mohren. And the original word Mauren/Maures did not refer to "Negroes" but to Maghrebine Arabs.

Yup the "good part" speaks Flemish ....... | | | | | There is Belgian guy in our office, sitting next to an African American colleague.
Sometimes on the phone when he is speaking Flemish (I think) and goes something like " Nega Nega", meaning Ok or Yes, perhaps?
For someone new... it can be shocking/hilarious |
