| | | Re: Libya's Gaddafi urges 'holy war' against Switzerland | Quote: | | | | | Ah? I always heard it means holy war, and this was coming from Arabic friends who speak Arabic so i m a bit confused now | | | | | "Yusuf" is right. There are two kinds of Jihad, the Higher Jihad which is the struggle to improve yourself and the world, and the Lesser Jihad which is the going to the defence of others under attack
************************************************** ***************
And your friends most likely are Arab friends, if from the Arab World or Arabian friends if from the Arabian Peninsula (the term is rarely used), but they cannot be "Arabic" as "Arabic" is the language but not any persons
************************************************** ******* | Quote: | | | | | Er, because democracy isn't one of their strong points? Show me a truly democratic nation in Africa (Mr. Wollishofener will resurrect his last response in a Ghadaffi bashing thread..) and I'll buy you a sticky bun. | | | | | First, define "truly democratic" ! and then we'll look further
************************************************** *********** | Quote: | | | | | There were so many Gadaffis wandering round Basel earlier this week the real one could have walked the streets unhindered.
He's a bit of an attention seeker if the truth be told. Never trust any leader who dyes their hair. And when they blacken their beard and eyebrows - watch out.
What amazes me about Gadaffi is that his people keep re-electing him every few years... | | | | |
Sorry, but he was NEVER elected into ANY position ! And he is neither President nor Prime Minister but "the leader of the Libyan revolution" and moved up to this supreme noble position by self-nomination
************************************************** ************************* | Quote: | | | | | Before this discussion goes any further could we please establish how to correctly spell his name?
Is it?
a) Gadaffi
b) Gaddafi
c) Ghadaffi
I've seen all three used and have always thought it was the second. | | | | |
Gadaffi Gaddafi Ghadaffi Khadafi Qadafi Qaddafi are all more or less correct
but the only "authorized version" of course is
معمر القذافي
and on that basis, I write it as Kh.... and in full
as theoretically asMuam'r al-Khadafi or rather as
Muammer al-Khaddafi
-
*********************************************** | Quote: | | | | | That's all well and good Yussuf, but let's be real here for a mo.
When the words Jihad and West (or for example a Western author) are mentioned in the same sentence, you need to wake up and smell the roses.
Those kinds of people calling for a Jihad are not exactly asking members of the faith to consider their inner demons, are they now?
I am not saying that we should all be running for the bomb shelters. What I am saying is that the two words are not being used in a... let's see, how to put this delicately?... positive or constructive way. | | | | | I suggest you start to be real yourself :
- the official Libyan news agency did not even publish
the anti-Switzerland rant
- Khaddafi is NOT a religious leader
- Libya still is doing exports (not only oil) to Switzerland
- Rants of Khaddafi are not known for positive and constructive ways !
Khaddafi made similar rants against Tunisia and Egypt once in a while, but Messrs Ben Ali and Mubarak are used to simply ignore the rubbish
----
************************************************** ********************** | Quote: | | | | | Interesting that in the Arab world this is a non-story, most of the news agencies never even picked it up, it shows what sort of status Ghadafi has in the Arab/Muslim world, little or none.
Makes me also muse about the culpability of the western media in the "war on terror" a little bit more of ignore the loony and less hysteria might be a useful future strategy. | | | | | The Arab World, as mentioned above, got used to his rants, usually against "fellow" Arab countries, for decades, and so, nobody cares. The Western Media enjoys to report about slightly crazy people "out there" .

When do they start marching?
Is Swiss Army on standby?
Do we need to evacuate and head for the bukers?
Am I too late for fun.. again? | | | | | Sure, everything is ready. For once, some people will have a very different WK from routine this year. And here is how the country will look like in future
Jeder Schweizer Kanton wird eine Kolonie in einem Teil gründen.
*********************************************** | Quote: | | | | | well gadaffi is a disgrace to the islamic world. he is a moron and i dont think anyone is that stupid to follow him... | | | | | No, he is NOT anything to the Islamic World or to the Arab World or to Africa or to the Mediterranean. Not even to Libya. Nobody regarded Idi Amin or Emperor Bokassa as a disgrace to Africa. GWB was not a disgrace to the USA. Pol Pot was not a disgrace to Asia.
************************************************* | Quote: | | | | | Supporting the Nazis, Apartheid, various dictators around the globe, Various criminal organisations and various Tax evaders is of course a very peaceful strategy...
You don't need to be at the frontline to have blood in your hand. Please at least be honest and realistic if you are going to point the finger. lets not fool ourselves OK! | | | | | Who supported the Nazis ? Please clarify
Who supported the various dictators ? Please clarify
Who supports what criminal organisations ? Please clarify | Quote: | | | | | on the other hand, it is about time that leaders in the middle east began comporting themselves as world leaders instead of irresponsible clowns. the world is laughing at them and frankly it's wearing a little thin. | | | | | You love to generalize ? Have leaders of the Arab World like King Mohammed VI, AbdelAziz Bouteflika, Abidine BenAli, Hosni Mubarak, Dr Bashar al-Assad, King Abdullah II or Ali Abdullah Saleh comported themselves as "irresponsible clowns" ?? When and in what way ?? And I here refer to those leaders who are the leaders of more than 75% of the Arab World ! So, I suggest you get real !

| | | Gaddafi may have a point about Switzerland http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/ti...t-switzerland/
well, at least he (author) has a point... contrary to the Gaddafi of course.
i would be also extremely angry in his situation, alhough he could instead of sitting and drinking, move through gates earlier and be on time... (so i would also be angry at myself...)
But there is something in Switzerland with 'we don't care' attitude , no matter what happens, it's always customer fault. Will it ever change?

For customs officials anywhere you never are a customer, but somebody who has to be grateful to be allowed past their controls. I have seen that in many countries, it is all the same. The only exceptions I ever saw are the customs officials at the airports of Dublin and Amman.

ROTFL!!
That's exactly what I thought!! LOL! He is just pissed about the Basel Fasnacht!! LOL! I was there and it was absolutely hilarious!! All those Gaddafis!!!!LOL! | Quote: | | | | | It is absolutely nothing to do with minarets and everything to do with Basel Fasnacht - the timing is just too close to be a coincidence. The number of Gaddafi floats/themes was clearly an insult to the great man's name and such a slur cannot be allowed to go unanswered... | | | | | |

Guys calm down,
I'm an Arab and I know a lot of libyan's, and I'm sure when I tell you the guy's an idiot.
When he used to come on Arabic television everybody would gather around to see what kind of ridiculous costume and superfunny words he'd say this time.
If I could compare the Arab world to a village, well he'd be the village fool.

He seldom takes himself at his word. You see, he says things like "there should be a total embargo". He allows ABB to continue to work in his country and to get the necessary equipment into the country

| | | Max Göldi departed from Tripoli
Looks as if Max Göldi has departed from Tripoli, according to the media on a scheduled flight, and so most likely on Air Malta to Malta-Luqa
Correction, he left Tripoli on TUNIS AIR TUN Tunis TU 414
Tunis Air 9:20 PM
Scheduled
320
and by now should have arrived in Tunis, the charming Capital of Tunisia

In the meantime, Mrs Calmy-Rey also has arrived in Tunis, and has met Mr Göldi, who now will return with her to Switzerland overnight. At which airport they will land was kept secret.
