But if you haven't watched the news for weeks you don't go announcing stuff on the EF without first checking whether maybe it isn't already common knowledge. | | | | | OP explicitly acknowledged that the case probably was common knowledge - but she wanted to discuss it, and there wasn't a thread on it, so she started one. I really don't see the problem here.

I knew about this weeks ago" and "If it were me, and my children, I would have had an immediate mindmeld with the world around me and known instantaneously ".
This is a horrible tragedy. Doesn't matter when you read about it in the papers or heard the neighbor talking about it.

| | | Re: Little boy in my son's kindergarten class killed by father | Quote: | | | | | I don't think so.
I knew the names of our childrens' classmates when they were in Kindergarten, and if a photo and name of one of those children were all over the newspapers, I can't imagine how I would have missed it. Still, local school, local news. Impossible that the neighbourhood parents weren't talking about it.
As a parent I would rather my child heard this news from me, and not at school. | | | | | You should read more carefully, the OP said she was in vacation. I do agree totally with you, I'll prefered to give the news to my kid myself. But in this case, they weren't there and you can't expect someone to follow the news just because you do so.
You can't expect someone to act like you and give them a speech if they didn't.

I'm not sure what relevance to the discussion the mother's occupation has.

I'm sure the OP is going to be getting tips from you from now on.
FFS, there are times when opinions should be kept quiet but I know that's sometimes hard on a public internet forum.
Thanks for sharing them anyway.

I thought I'd try and find out about this story, so I Googled (plain and news) "Swiss father killed son Brazilian" . . . top site . . . EF.
Quite difficult to find anything on this story in English.

Pretty sickening stuff. I don't envy anyone trying to explain that to a six year old but at least at that age they bounce back very strongly and in a few days will quite possibly appear to have forgotten it ever happened. I remember a class mate of mine died in horrible circumstances when I was eight but that we all carried on playing the next day and quickly put it out of our minds. Somehow it was easier to deal with shocks at that age. | Quote: | | | | | You should read more carefully, the OP said she was in vacation. Might have been good if the kindergarten had contacted the parents in advance???

| | | Re: Little boy in my son's kindergarten class killed by father | Quote: | | | | | Whilst you're right, it's not just a Swiss phenomena - google "baby p".
You need permits for all kinds of things the world over but to have kids, you don't. | | | | | I have to agree with you on this one...they send people thru a rigorous system to adopt...IMHO they are going to have to do this with all people who want to reproduce...Or maybe create a medical procedure where everyone gets sterilzed at birth, and after certain requirements it will be reversed when they want to have children...I'm sure this idea may not be PC (politically correct) but it seems its just getting worse, but of course a system as such would cause a host of other problems...or maybe we have to do like China with the "one baby rule"...this goes for the developed and the developing world...O.K. done.. | Quote: | | | | | Exactly!! For instance, I know of 2 women that just recently had kids...one was smoking during her pregnancy and the other one is still doing an apprenteship (thus no real income)....and none of them are married.
I am seriously in favour of everybody being sterilized from the get go...and if someone would want kids (definitely not me) then he/she could go and apply for a suitability test to see whether he/she should have kids....if approved he/she then would get the (natural) medical remedy to be able to produce and offspring....sounds harsh and controversial...but it would be highly logical and the only way humanity can survive in the long term. | | | | | Interesting LIB...I just wrote about the same idea before reading your post...It makes sense really...

Who decides?! I don't know..we are overpopulated right now...but what I do know, is that we need a solution....to all the smart commenters out there, yes I will try my best to refrain from spreading of my very own genes by not wanting to have children and thus making a small contribution to humankind.

Unfortunately some of us have to play the bad parts...

Who gets to say what/who a shithead is anyway?
