Little boy in my son's kindergarten class killed by father

My son came home from kindergarten yesterday so very upset that one of his classmates is dead. Over the ski holiday a boy in his class was killed by his father. This is just so sad. The more I read about it the more I realize it could have been prevented.
No one can understand why a parent would do this and how do you explain it to a 6 year old? So, so sad. My heart goes out to the mother.

Here is one of the articles. I am sure a lot of you have heard it in the news.

that's sad. Hopefully your kid gets over the trauma.

I remember a guy who worked in the same office as me somehow snapped and killed his wife and two kids. This was because she was going to leave him.

Jeez, that's terrible; it's been in the news here for the past couple of weeks about the death in the Winterthur hotel. My thoughts go out to you and your boy. Very heavy subject to digest at his age. Take him to the zoo, or somewhere he loves to go and tell him how much you love him and that you'll always be there for him.

Re: Little boy in my son's kindergarten class killed by father

This has been all over the newspapers, TV and radio for the last two weeks. This is not the first time that the father has attempted to kill one of his children. The last time he didn't succeed though and spent 8 years in jail.

If yesterday was the first you heard of this I think you don't take any notice of news stories from your locality. This story is nationwide and keeping an ear for what is going on around you could have allowed you to prepare your child for the shock when going to kindergarten.

Yes, I know it's been in the news we just got back from our 2 week ski holiday. A few of his classmates were just hearing about it for the first time after returning back from the holidays. I don't think it matters when we found it, it is just devastating.

Whilst you're right, it's not just a Swiss phenomena - google "baby p".

You need permits for all kinds of things the world over but to have kids, you don't.

Actually I don't think so. Maybe I'm wrong about the OP and if I do I apologise, but I find it is an issue with many English speaking expats that they stick their head in the sand to local news and have no idea what is going on around them.

Even if the OP was on ski holiday in Switzerland its something they would have still heard about. If they were out of the country its understandable. Literally every news broadcast on both TV and Radio in the last few weeks has had this as one of the leading stories and it has been in every news paper too.

...I know that sad story of baby P. I was actually just talking over this very topic with my gf yesterday...how many people out there squeeze out a baby and have no means to support it nor do they have the emotional understanding to care for one either.
I meantioned the Swiss authorities because there are several notirious cases like that. Also, laws that would prevent victims from receiving further abuse didn't come into effect until a few years ago.

No it is useless in this thread. It has nothing to do with the subject. And it is not because you go in vacation and still in the country than it means you have to stay connected to the media.

For many, vacation means to disconnect. She is not guilty to not know earlier because YOU think she should....

Lets not hijack this thread.

Re: Little boy in my son's kindergarten class killed by father

I don't read newspapers when I'm on holiday. Not local, not international. I am a firm believer that the world could manage without me if it had to, and holidays are a time to celebrate and reaffirm that belief.

Be that as it may - a terrible thing to come back to. I wish you and your son all the best in dealing with it.

We were out of the country. We heard it on the radio when we returning but the name of the little boy was not released. We do try and keep up on the news, our children go to local schools. We are just really saddened for this poor little innocent child. It should not have happened.

I think Eire has now joined the integration Police. Do we have to have a certain quota of new reports and is there any particular places that we have to read them or can do as we please as long as we payout taxes and contribute to society? Perhaps soon we'll ll be obliged to start eating fondue and drinking insipid Swiss wine...

Exactly!! For instance, I know of 2 women that just recently had kids...one was smoking during her pregnancy and the other one is still doing an apprenteship (thus no real income)....and none of them are married.
I am seriously in favour of everybody being sterilized from the get go...and if someone would want kids (definitely not me) then he/she could go and apply for a suitability test to see whether he/she should have kids....if approved he/she then would get the (natural) medical remedy to be able to produce and offspring....sounds harsh and controversial...but it would be highly logical and the only way humanity can survive in the long term.

Didn't the OP include the link in German to the local news, as well as note that many people had probably already heard of it?
