Once again, I'm not saying this is a "solution", I'm just saying that there are more than one way of dealing with it...we can speculate all we want, but there is no correct or false way of dealing with prostitution...sadly.

Even the strongest of the quotes given in your link is actually pretty weak as a statement against prostitution "For a prostitute is a deep pit and a wayward wife is a narrow well. Like a bandit she lies in wait, and multiplies the unfaithful among men."

To me that is more a warning to married men to avoid prostitutes than actually saying anything against prostitution?

I asked the question because I have several times read statements to the effect that Christianity forbids prostitution, or similar, but it is hard to find any reference in the bible to support this. If you look at the ten commandments then these are pretty clearly stated rules but there is nothing similarily clearly written about prostitution.

Because there is no need to: moral and social rejection of female sexuality as prostitution outside the social code of conduct is a cultural value in that region that we have inherited. Prostitution was more about honor than financial retribution for services, the money does not change anything about it for that time's people. It doesn't stand in the bible either that water is wet.
