Swiss getting whopped in Singapore for graffiti

Apparently, a swiss citizen is being charged for smudging a subway wagon with graffity (sort of like it is frequently seen on Swiss trains here).

http://www.blick.ch/news/ausland/sch...chlaege-148376

according to the Singaporean law, he is entitled to receive up to:

8 hits with a stick
3 years in jail
a fine of roughly 1640CHF

Maybe we ought to introduce such laws in Switzerland to prevent public and private property from being vandalized.

Re: Swiss getting whopped in Singapore for graffity

It reminded me of Michael Fay.

Quote:
Legal basis

Sections 227 to 233 of the Criminal Procedure Code[2] lay down the procedures governing caning, including:
  • A convicted male criminal who is between the ages of 18 and 50 and has been certified medically fit by a medical officer may be subjected to judicial caning.
  • He will receive a maximum of 24 strokes of the cane on any one occasion, irrespective of the total number of offences committed.
  • If the offender is under 18 he may receive up to 10 strokes of the cane, but a lighter rattan cane will be used in this case. Male juveniles under the age of 16 may be sentenced to caning only by the High Court and not by district courts.
  • He will not be caned if he has been sentenced to death.
  • The thickness of the rattan cane shall not exceed half an inch (1.27 cm) in diameter.
A convicted male criminal not sentenced to caning may be caned in prison if he breaks prison rules.
Offences punishable by caning

Singaporean law allows caning to be ordered for over 30 offences, including robbery, gang robbery with murder, drug use, vandalism, and rioting.[3] Caning is also a mandatory punishment for certain offences such as rape, drug trafficking and for visiting foreigners who overstay their visa by more than 90 days.[4]
source

BTW, there are legal spraying spots, including in my Stadt.

Re: Swiss getting whopped in Singapore for graffity

This is why it is known as "A Fine City!"

Having spent 4 years living in Singapore I loved its cleanliness! There are many things that are against the laws and supposed to be enforced with fines. Are few are listed below:

Jaywalking
Smoking in a public place (they even have special yellow painted boxes for smoking in public places)
Drugs (Death Penalty)
Litter Dropping
Chewing Gum!

I don't think it is a bad thing!

Make it higher and get him to clean 10 football fields worth of graffiti. Finding that much to clean in Singapore might be a problem?

I think it's a good thing...setting an example and all. What a idiot. Where does he take the liberty to go to another country and smudge a subway wagon like that. I am in serious favor for laws like that in Switzerland. It pisses me off to see our public and private property disrespected like that. End of Rant.

Come it's mother Earth and the whole world belongs to all of humanity All these man made virtual boundaries are just in our mind. Guy was just spreading love. Btw any photos of the actual graffiti? It better be good or I will whoop his backside too

I'm not getting old. I just don't like some moron disrespecting other people's property. Certainly, the boundaries are imaginary, but they are clearly defined as shared environment...and that's where I draw the line. We might as well go to his apartment and scribble (no pun....) crap on his bedroom wall and mess up his living environment...you get what I'm saying?
Shared environment - not cool
his own place - totally cool

The actual graffiti was not the best but was skill full enough so he can at least graffiti properly. It was quiet big for Singapore I must say LOL

Being a creative I like the train better with graffiti on it That said I agree spoiling property without permission is not cool.

Btw is singapore like the movie EQUILIBRIUM?

Theres easily that much on the Mitre hotel. Though I have a feeling that if you clean it off, there'll be nothing left.

It's a lovely little oasis of decay and graffiti in an otherwise pristine, if bland, city.

It's also sitting on PRIME real estate in the heart of the city...

That said, I did love it there in Singapore

To be honest, I like a bit of colour in our cities, especially stuff that brightens the place up a little.

I think you're talking mainly about tagging and that kind of crap. We've had this discussion on EF before, about the difference between that kind of vandalism, and actual street art.

But dude was an idiot for trying that crap in Singers. You don't fu*k with the Police State.

...no idea about equilibrium, I don't really watch movies, I'm more a book type of person.

I think that cities should have a wall where graffity artist can engage in their craft without smudging other people's property.

Did you hear about the one last year where a city council in england painted over a very famous Banksy piece, even though the owner of the building wanted to keep it?

Link is somewhere on the other thread. I'll dig it up now
