I suppose this is news here (well, obviously it is) BUT when I was going to Confirmation classes back in high school (when I was 16'ish), some of the classes actually mirrored some of the chapters we had on sex education in health class.
Of course, AIDS was "new" back then and everyone was all freaked out (being much more immediate a death sentence back then than it is now) so we received information on all sorts of methods of contraception. Of course, the big recommendation was for abstinence but we were given information on condom usage as well as spermicide as ways to prevent the spread of AIDS.
Our mentor priest was quite young though so perhaps the wild days of his youth were a bit nearer (and dearer

) a memory than for some of the more aged (and influential) pontiffs elsewhere.
