"Transparently biased". I like that phrase. Sums up perfectly what I wanted to say.
True, and at least with transparent bias you can mentally correct for that, but if you're reading some internet blog you don't normally know where the author is coming from or what axes he or she has to grind. That's the one point where printed media are still ahead of the internet.

All you have to do is read the Internet source for a while to gauge it . . . exactly as people have done for print media.

Has anyone ever actually looked at both BAZ and Tagi websites - they are almost identical, apart from some minor differences...

Are they actually part of one house already?? If so, would the appointment of Blocher as "advisor" have an effect on the Tagi, too?

Just curious...
No, it is two completely different companies. You however have to realize that journalists of different newspapers know each other quite closely.

I rather expect some "cleaning" to take place among the BAZ journalists soon, with all dissidents to the new line being ousted (not sent to Siberia, only to Zurich )
Interestingly, when I told them that it was because of political developments when they asked why we were cancelling our subsription, they semed to relish the answer. I think very many people have cancelled this week and there have already been some very encouraging developments: see

OK, it looks like I can start reading it again...what a relief. I'm really glad there is a new owner, cheers to all the journalists

It is not just A new owner, it is THE legendary and well known civil aviation veteran Moritz Suter

http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/wirtscha...story/26920639

a very high-tempered man. A man with a very personal style. He hates board meetings, but invites businessmen and employees alike into a restaurant and then irons out the matter.

I hope he succeeds in the task ahead

It might well "take off", but we will not be climbing back on board until Mr. Somm has gone. Apparently »Er wolle Markus Somm als Chefredaktor behalten«, but at least he has already got shot of Robberinvest.

Well, Mr Somm is a person always going with the wind. He outflanked colleagues via the LEFT when working at Tages Anzeiger, he outflanked colleagues via the RIGHT when working at Weltwoche, so that he now will outflank everybody in favour of civil aviation when working for aviation-man Moritz Suter

Re: Concerns about Baslerzeitung editorial?

It is great to see the BAZ no longer in the clutches of the SVP. I was very happy about the story. It also reminds how much I miss Crossair, before it was destroyed to create Swiss after Swissair went backrupt.

The only negative I remember about Moritz Suter is how much he likes his cigars which meant Crossair was one of the last airlines to finally get rid of smoking.

However, it is fantastic news that Basel will not have a newspaper which supports the negative and often repugnant views of the SVP.

Have fun

Martin

Re: Concerns about Baslerzeitung editorial?

Got a letter from the BaZ today saying that they would regard the cancellation of our subscription as struck unless we informed them to the contrary. The tone was somewhat presumptuous, facilely assuming that, just because they had cancelled their arrangement with Robberinvest and had got Sooter on board, we would be happy to pay for their noisepaper.
I actually took the trouble to phone them to tell them we are not interested - something I would not have done in similar circumstances in the Uk, where the courts have repeatedly affirmed the priciple that "silence is not good acceptance". Mr Sooter might have a sophisticated taste with regard to cigars and know a thing or two about running an airlines, but to judge from the online edition, the Baz can no longer be salvaged. The sad thing is that our V4 stainless steel parrot stand has a 4 mm thick base that was custom-made for the BaZ, and the BLZ is a good centimetre smaller.
