[speed camera]Photo taken - how quickly[is the fine sent]

Unfortunately I got blitzed twice (TWICE) the other day.

How quickly can I expect to receive the fine?

Does anyone know how good the cameras are? In Denmark, where I come from, they can only use 10%, but I guess the technology used here are more advanced.

Yikes. You might wanna check your normal routes for where the speed and light cameras are so you'll know where to be careful.

Usually, your ticket should come in the mail with in 4-7 working days. (At least that has been my experience with the cameras at the stop-lights in Zurich)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think the cameras here are pretty good. Pretty much everyone I know who noticed that they got flashed received a ticket.

Bear in mind that there are cameras that blitz you to check if you are wearing your seatbelt or not...

Re: Photo taken - how quickly

7-14 days is normal. The cameras are good, and depending on the system 5 or 3 km/h are deducted from the measured velocity (except for faster velocities where it's a percentage). Like MissBehaving said, the cameras of the latest generation are able to notice if passengers wear the seatbelt or if the driver uses a cell phone. They aren't widespread (yet?) and only installed on motorways, to my knowledge.

This speeding fine list was posted here before.

Is that only for certain areas? I usually get mine about three to five weeks later.

I'm talking about the Basel / Solothurn / Aarau area

PS I'm no racer. I normally get my fines on the Autobahn for being between 5 and 8 km too fast and that's after the error reduction process.

Re: [speed camera]Photo taken - how quickly[is the fine sent]

I'm thrilled to announce that in ZH mine came in exactly 18 days. Yes, plural.

Flight arrived late from London City Airport, drove home fine, but had some things leftover to complete at the office. On the way back home, I earned a 250chf fine for speeding and a marvelous addition to that fine for not recognizing the shade of a light I was driving past, or perhaps for lapsing into "right on red" habits from my American training.

250 + 250 = irritated, but more cautious driver.

My assistant at work summed it perfectly.

"Yes, everyone who drives in Switzerland is a criminal"

They are also installed in Zurich.
Also note that not everyone who is flashed actually receives a ticket. When the camera has been newly set, after a film change or when newly installed it takes 10 calibration photos. If you are one of the "lucky" ones you drive through and get a picture taken without a fine. It happened to me once when I was pointing out a "hidden" camera and saying if I was to be going over the limit that camera there would flash and it obliged to make it easier to be seen...

Re: [speed camera]Photo taken - how quickly[is the fine sent]

2-3 weeks. I received the privilege of paying 120:- for going 7km too fast in the city. Twice.

With your TomTom, Garmin or whatever GPS you used it is illegal for the manufacturers to distribute the locations of the cameras so that your device can warn you in time.

No other country in EU has a problem with this, except Switzerland. There are ways and means, investigate them. The money I spend in preventative measures more than makes up for the money I would normally spend on fines.

The cameras in Zurich have a tolerance of 2km/h. They are deadly accurate.

Re: [speed camera]Photo taken - how quickly[is the fine sent]

14 days later and I received the first fine.

60 CHF for speeding 8 km/h too fast (after deduction of 6 km/h) - registered speed 134 km/h - allowed speed 120 km/h.

This is a good cash machine!!!!

Now I am fearing the 2nd one. I am afraid I drove 80 km/h in a 60 km/h zone ......................

Hopefully the camera was calibrating.................

Re: [speed camera]Photo taken - how quickly[is the fine sent]

I once received one after 3 Months from Kt. Basel.

The worst ever happened to me when I went to IKEA to get 1 (one!) missing
pole for our first set of Shelves for the shop. The pole cost about 10 francs
and the fine was a total of about 700 francs because I was 16 km/h net over
the speed limit inside town. Got me a nice 250 francs fine plus a warning for
which I had to pay administrative fees for in the canton where it happened
and to the Strassenverkehrsamt in Lucerne.

Most expensive trip to IKEA ever!

Except for the new digital cams.

The process is so fast, you don't even have the time to arrange for the photos' , ahem, "disappearance" , ahem, anymore,

What is this world coming to.

Ah and did I mention the IR flash which you don't necessarily see...
