Re: Fahrzeugausweis - Vehicle registration document

For some reason, the number of scammers on autoscout24 seems to have increased in the last months. Both "buyers" and "sellers". They are getting more sophisticated too, last week I was approached by a "cashier check" scammer who wanted to "buy" my car and he even had a facebook acount, with picture, friends and study/work history. Of course, having studied at Harvard I would have expected Dr. Dean Andrew Coleman to be able to speak proper English...

Another funny one was a "seller" who advertised some car in CH which was actually for sale. He removed the phone number, but not before autoscout24 mailed me with the original ad, which included the real garage phone number. So I called and of course the car had a double price and the guys there told me it wasn't advertised on autoscout

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have a question.
A nice EFer sold me his bike, he gave me the Fahrzeugausweis that had been terminated (says UNGULTIG ab...). My questions are: a) is this enough proof of ownership? and b)how do I register it to my name, so far i only have an L permit

Thanks+
your friend deposit his controllshild and that moment it cancels the insurence also. after that moment u can sell it to everybody.
a) yes only the paper its enough.
b) when its too long not been checked by the MFK. you need to show it there. when all is ok u get a new paper, after that ucan make the insurence in your name.

The only piece of paper you need is the old registration card.

Don't phone, just go (preferably when they open, as you'll have to get a ticket and wait for your number).

Re: Fahrzeugausweis - Vehicle registration document

Let me understand - anyone could take my fahrzeugausweis to the strassenverkehrsamt, cancel my registration and re-register the car in their name; yet I should keep this document with my car, where, if the car is stolen, the thief would also have the document and could then claim that I had sold the vehicle to them?

Yes they could, but it does not seem to be an issue as everyone leaves the grey card in the car.

No doubt if you reported the car stolen then it would be flagged.

Thanks. Now I think about it, my scenario doesn't make sense - there would be a trail of evidence one way or the other.

Why, most people pay with cash & no paperwork on the second hand market, I think your overthinking this.

It makes sense to me which is why I only have a photocopy in the car and keep the original safe at home. It's only a small fine if you get stopped and checked and you don't have the original in the car anyway.

Re: Fahrzeugausweis - Vehicle registration document

Car theft does not seem to be an issue, I never had theft insurance in CH although the cars & motorbikes spent a lot of time in France.

In 20 years I never heard of anyone having a car stolen.
