Tolls in Germany/Austria/France with Swiss car

My husband's family is coming over next week and they are renting a car from Zurich and driving to a few places that cover Germany, Austria and France. Just wondering if there is a similar vignette to what Switzerland has for their highways that cars have to display? Tried asking at the car rental agency but the person wasn't much help (waved their hand and said we should know the rules where we are going to drive )

just don't want them to get stopped and charged some high fine for something with a simple solution!

Thanks!

Germany is free. Italy and France you pay at toll booths (péage in French) with credit card or cash--the more you travel, the more you pay. Austria has a vignette system like Switzerland. You can buy it at all garages/service stations before the border. I remember it being between 10 and 20 euros for like a week or 10 days.

Austria sells one-way "Vignetten"-of-sorts that are 2€ I think -- works just like a toll. Getting the year Vignette is only worth it if you use Austrian freeways regularly.

That is wrong. The earlier posts are correct!

The BIG problem in Austria is that all the FUN roads have an additional toll (beyond the highway sticker)!
