Motorcycle Training!

Hi Guys Im sure this would have probably come up in a previous discussion, but would like some advice.

I have a full UK car driving liscense which is going to be sent off for a Swiss one. I have always been keen to get a Motorcycle liscence behind me. I have been a pillion for far to long and now would like to be in the driving seat so to speak.

Does anyone here (either know or give) motorcycle lessons, would ideally like to go for the Advanced Course with an Instructor who speaks reasonably good english as my German still isnt up to scratch. Im based in Zurich, maybe someone could advise me?

Again sorry if this is a regular question!

Re: Motorcycle Training!

OK, the way it works here is that you get a learner's permit, ride around a bit, then take a course (3 Saturday mornings or such), ride around some more, then take your test.

Don't really know of anyone that gives training other than for the courses.

How long have you had a car license? If before 1980 or so, you automatically get a small bike license. Otherwise, if you are 26+, you can go directly for the unlimited license, if not, you first have to get the small bike license, and have that for two years before moving up.

www.tramstrasse100.ch - Urs Tobler is based in Oerlikon. His English is good enough, though once in a while he struggles for the word. Tell him Lance sent you.

No point in opening a new thread and messing up the search results...

He looks well established and all, but as he openly states that he's not the cheapest, but the best... anyone know of a good 'n' cheap option in the ZH area?

I had a bike for years, but they wouldn't convert my motorcycle license on entry (yay schwyz) so I need to do the "Grundkurs" all over again... I'm sure he's got lots to teach, but I Prefer to not pay the premium unless it's on a track.

Re: Motorcycle Training!

How much do they charge?

Around here, it's CHF 470.

It looks like he took his pricelist down (http://motoschule.ch/preisliste.html), but from memory it was in the 800-1000 range for a class "A". Could be off of course, but I remember being not exactly thrilled.

Re: Motorcycle Training!

Can anyone recommend a motorcycle instructor in Lugano. An English-speaking instructor is preferred, but I might be able to muddle through with my Italian.

I have a class B driver's license, converted from a US license, so have not taken the first aid or theory classes. Would I need to take these to get a class A license?

Re: Motorcycle Training!

You'll have to take a motorcycle theory class, but no first aid. Not a bad idea to do that too, though.

I went to Urs and he wanted to do around 5 private lessons before letting me into the group kurs. I've been riding for more than 20 years and I was not keen on spending 1000 chuffs before the actual test. I went to Mattias ( http://www.fahrschule-barmettler.ch/ ) and the grundkurs cost just over 400 chuffs and I passed the test first time. Matthias' English is very good and he works out of Adliswil. Good luck!

P.S. I think the price for the grundkurs is actually set by the canton authorities which is why some instructors insist on private lessons to make more cash.

I'll have to ask my wife, I have heard her instructor speak to some students in English.

Dear all,

As a newbie here, i have a similar question regarding the class A license. I have been riding bikes on my Class B permit (Spanish) but only unto 125cc. Now I would like to get the full bike license in Basel, does anyone know of any good, english or spanish speaking schools? Many thanks in advance,

Re: Motorcycle Training!

There is a Spanish Riding School, but unfortunately it is in Vienna and is probably a bit far.
I also believe that they only train up to 1 bhp/ps powered "machines"

And, something that bikers particularly enjoy, as they often have to eat on the hoof.
