Hi,

I'm (trying) to help out a friend from church. He's just relocated from America to Switzerland, and his belongings are being moved over. They are arriving in Lausanne, and he's asked me to get some quotes for moving them to Martigny, where he lives.

I have a problem as he has been told that his goods are arriving at the "Lausanne Freight Container Station". Google is not proving helpful at locating this, and my best efforts to translate are not throwing any light on the subject either.

I've called him, and he can't remember the name of the moving company, and hasn't got access to that information at present.

So I am turning to EF in the hope that someone might have had goods arrive there in the past and might be able to point me in the right direction?

Le Flon is an area of the city of Lausanne, in Switzerland. It is served by passenger trains from Lausanne-Flon station.

In the early twentieth century, the Flon had become the main freight station of the city of Lausanne. However, from 1950 the site was connected to the rest of the city that extended around the ancient valley, removing the reason to be of the Gare du Flon.

Best to check the bill of lading - the receiving agent should be mentioned on there with contact details.
These transports are often paid up to a certain freight station - even if the carrier does not actually have a physical address there. Most likely the goods will be unloaded in either Basel or even Geneva and trucked to Lausanne.

Also, a CFS is not an official description. It's simply a place where a co-loader (NVOCC) would unload/destuff a consolidated container or truck - so it could be any warehouse really...

I'd definitely check with the shipper.

I consider it highly unlikely that anybody's personal stuff will be delivered by freight train or stored in a railway container yard. Possible the term "station" may have got twisted somewhere in the translation, and that the yard of some shipper is meant. As long as you don't know which shipper, you could as well look anywhere.
