UK Parking Ticket

Last week we made the mistake of driving to the UK. Sadly shopping was involved so we parked in a four hour zone. For five hours. Does anyone have any experience of not paying a parking ticket issued in the UK? Do they pass the ticket to the Swiss authorities or anything?

Re: UK Parking Ticket

I would not worry. Was it parked on the road or in a car park? I would imagine that it would be too much trouble for the local council authority to get there act together. They probably just booked you to increase their numbers of tickets issued. Mind you I got a ticket in the Valais in a UK registered car a few years ago. I did pay it!

Re: UK Parking Ticket

I've had friends who got UK parking tickets and they were never sent out to Belgium. I've gotten parking tickets in Holland and Germany, never received anything here in CH. So I think you're can be pretty sure you won't receive a thing.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

Just don't push your luck too far and get clamped or towed away.

PS many thanks to the police in Mannheim. I haven't heard from you , although I still have the ticket which I found on my windscreen.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

my mate did not pay the congestion charge a few years back so something like a parking ticket I would not worry about - unless I was returning to that exact location sometime in the future.

With my luck, I woud be living there next year or someone would get bored and trace me up.

I'll pretend it never happened then. I just hope I don't end up with a sob story to tell in a few months time.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

Does anyone have a definitive answer? I'm visiting in Richmond London and there is no parking between 9am and 11am. We were a little late leaving this morning and got a 110GBP parking fine. Normally I wouldnt mind, but there is no alternative parking and no opportunity to 'pay and display'

We were fined in Oxford about ten years ago (had to walk to the far end of the car park to buy a ticket, got back with said pre-paid ticket to find we'd been done, decided to ignore it thinking they'd never find us) and received a follow-up demand at our address in Geneva a couple of months later.
On ringing the council office concerned it seems someone in the office had had the bright idea of asking the Bureaux des Autos who the number-plate belonged to!
Similar thing happened in Victoria, London five years ago but no follow up.

So, your choice; but odds are you'll probably get away with it.

If they do send you a letter, pay up.... someone's gone to a bit of trouble to find you.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

Ignore it. Even if they send you a letter there's nothing they can really do to get you to cough up. UK has no agreements with anyone concerning traffic offences.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

Exactly, ignore it like the millions of others that are ignored. They can ask for it to be payed but it cant be enforced.

Uk does not have any enforcement agreements with CH.

This is assuming you were driving a non UK reg car?

I am waiting for the rebuttal post saying everything can be enforced.

However if you are sure the PCN is 100% compliant (many are not), the signage complies with the TrafficSignsRegulations and General Directions legislation,
the parking bay is compliant and matches with the Parking Places Order and is valid.

Then maybe consider paying.. would I pay it in a non UK car? ... not a chance.

Re: UK Parking Ticket

I have just received in the post, a demand for a UK parking ticket from August 2013.
The letter has London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in top left hand corner and then the entire letter is in German demanding 209 CHF - to be paid to Euro Parking Collection plc, with an ING Switzerland bank account provided.
I am wondering if there is now an enforcement policy in place, or could I get away with popping this in the recycling

A treaty between the Swiss Confederation and Euro Parking Collection Plc? Nah.

In simple terms, it's an invitation to pay.

Like an invitation to a party.

This actually sounds like a scam. Were you in Richmond in August?
