car self-service

Hi all !
I am not sure how such a service is named, but I would like to know if somebody knows a car self-service in the region of Fribourg / Berne. I want to change the oil and what I need is only a ramp. It's not rocket science and being a student I cannot afford expensive prices of Swiss garages. I'd prefer doing by my own.

Thank you for your help.
Cheers !
Teodor

I generally change my oil by the side of the road in France, the oil is much cheaper there as well

Re: car self-service

What do you mean 'by the side of the road' ?
I've already bought the oil and filters, all I need is a ramp to rent. That's why I am asking about a self-service garage in Switzerland.

Cheers !

Re: car self-service

I have seen garage space for rental. When you take the train from Zurich HB to the airport there is a place on the right hand side before you go thru the tunnel. Sorry I dont have the name.

Thanks for that, but I am looking for such a service near Fribourg or Berne . Hope I can find one in this area.

Re: car self-service

hydrolic lifts (small ones useful for tyre change) are about 50 CHF at Jumbo. but might not be able to give you the safety to raise for oil change.

there are do-it-yourself garages. http://www.do-it-yourself-garage.ch is in zurich, but possibly you can find something similar around bern, using www.directories.ch?

Normally you don't need to get the car off the ground to change the oil, sometimes it's necessary to lift a wheel an inch or 2 to get the pan with the old oil out. Use a large piece of cardboard to catch any drips. I even did it about 10 times under Europa Bridge in ZH!

That's exactly what I am looking for, but not in ZH. I couldn't find any in Berne area using www.directories.ch

Re: car self-service

Don't you have any friends with a house/garage/etc?

Before finally finding a couple garages to rent (we have 7 motorcycles, three cars, and a moped, for three drivers), I either did it at work, or at friend's.

Tom

Yeap, unfortunately I don't have because I've just moved to Switzerland. I am student and I need a cheaper way to do this
