I got it stamped onboard the train as Customs performed their checks. Sometimes break my journey in Lugano, got it stamped, and 10 minutes later catch the next train to Zurich HB.
but i had a few experiences when there were no customs checks and so this wouldn't be a 'guaranteed' way of getting the stamp. good to know you can do this in Lugano as well as Chiasso - might be a good alternative if no customs people turn up.

Re: Tageskarte >> Travel to Milan

Safe bet, break the journey in Lugano, finish the formalities, and catch the next ICN / EC ( no need for reservations in CH unlike in IT ) to your destination.

Re: Tageskarte >> Travel to Milan

We went to Milan a few weeks ago with the GA. Our biggest problem was getting a reservation... the train was filled to the brim and only 1st class seats were available.

So it's not only a problem about getting a ticket from Lugano/Chiasso to Milan, you should also pay for a reservation or you might not have a seat!
