Lost car keys

And the spare has been lost for some time now. Does anyone know how I go about getting a new key? How complicated is this? I'm a little worried.

Dont be

When i wanted an extra key for my car, i just went and asked for one. I had another one though so no idea if they will ask for something extra for you since you dont have any. I went to the main Citroen garage and it was all done in a day

Re: Lost car keys

It depends on the car. Your first stop is the nearest garage that sells and services your make of car.

Modern car keys have an immobiliser. Even if you cut a new key, the car will not switch on when you turn the new key, the symptoms are as though there is no car battery.

So there are two factors, the shape of the key and the electronic code. Even with a new key in your hand, a spare will cost at least CHF 80 !!

You really ought to try and find that lost key!

Re: Lost car keys

The above two posts sum it up best.

No keys?

a) Contact your local car dealer (for your make of vehicle). If possible, they can identify the barrel number and replicate a set of keys for you.

b) Either at the dealer (or if it's an old car), you may need to get the barrel and door locks changed.

Know this:
1) It will take some time, and
2) It's probably going to be expensive. (but cheaper than a new car).

Re: Lost car keys

Contact the garage you bought the car in or the local dealer of your make and ask them to order you a new set, you should be expected to pay 80 CHf per key
dont forget to bring you car registration papers to prrof ownership..

Re: Lost car keys

Thanks all, I really appreciate it!
I am still looking for the key(s), but with little kids I'm afraid I'm going to find them in 10 years in some random toy!
