Alright folks, I don't know how the situation is where y'all at...but here in sunnyside Olten, the fog has developed into a thick, thick blanket of god knows what and it's hard to see anything.....now, I just wanted to urge you, to drive with your fog lights on to increase visibility and maybe avoid a collision.

And when it's raining, use your windscreen wipers.

I always use fog lights in the fog, but noticed that not that many- maybe half- of others do. And as soon as the fog gets a leeetle bit thinner I have folks flashing me to turn them off .

Can you do another thread reminding all the numbnuts that drive around with them on permanently that they should perhaps turn them off occasionally? Preferably when it's not foggy.

Well here is Granny with a few bits of advice! We were in the Uk last 2 weeks and in fog many people still drive nose to tail, white van, lorries and all. The terrible accident/carnage on the M5 could probably have been avoided if

people dropped their speed
and leave more space between vehicles in fog.

Problem is as soon as you leave a bit more space some t**** jumps in and then slams on the breaks. We even witnesses several people on the M25 texting in thick fog, mainly white van drivers, but also 1 woman with kids in the back and 1 huge lorry - texting whilst overtaking us. GRRRRRRRR

Yup. And that never, never, never happens in CH. Nope. Never. Not once...

Generally it's best to use them when visibility is less than 100m so as not to dazzle other drivers.

See plenty of those in the Midlands - they are called 'lampers' and not very nice to meet on a dark night in the countryside- but i digress.

You only allowed to use them when visibility is less than 50 meter.

But to be honest I've not seen any fog in Neuchatel (which gets a lot of fog) which would suggest that fog lamps would be required.

Just FYI, there is a rule against using your foglights... UNLESS the weather dictates. Now what is the threshold? I could not get an exact answer. But I was driving in Zurich when suddenly sirens and 4 officers outside my car. They told me that the weather was not bad enough to have my foglights on.

No ticket for me, but when I asked when I should use them they said when the weather is worse. It was raining and kind of dark at the time, so I rarely use them in CH anymore. YMMV
