I am relocating to Zug with my wife, from Toledo Ohio. We are bringing my harley sportster. Will this bike fit in, or does everyone ride sports bikes or naked cruisers? I was hoping to trade or sell and buy something else someday.

I understand helmets are required. Will US Department of Transportation (DOT) helmets be accepted, or do they have to be inspected or bought in Switzerland?

While I have used DOT helmets in the past, technically they aren't legal (and I don't use them any more).

Also, if your Harley isn't 100% OEM, you will have to convert it back to stock.

Although very well versed in the procedure for car import and insurance from most territories, I know bikes can be a little different but they still need to go through the same import channels and have an MFK test done. This being the case I would imagine for you need a certificate of conformity. You should be able to get one from Harley if don't have one.

The talks about the Harley being stock are correct but it must also conform to Swiss regulations and this might be a little different; i.e does it have Kph on the speedo as well as MPH? Any side running lights? Are the stock US / your state mufflers emitting the same noise levels as the Swiss ones?

You may just be better to sell there and then buy here ....

Yes, a helmet is required here (and pretty much everywhere in Europe, I think). In fact, you'll see far more people in ATGATT than people riding without - a very vast majority wear the protective gear.

It's a lot different from Milwaukee, where 1 in a 100 wears so much as a helmet....
