So I think my car has been the victim of a slight clip on the driver's door mirror because the cover came flying off when I was on the motorway today - fortunately I was in the outside lane about to exit left and it landed in the central reservation so no-one hit by it.

Anyway, I am off to the UK for several days and found a replacement cover that is already primed.

Question is how easy is it to paint to match car and fit - anyone done this before ? Or are there garages in the Zurich area that might do this for me?

what car and what colour?

Metallic colours are almost impossible to match and a paint shop would blend it in by spraying some of the car as well. you'll never match it using spray cans from halfords, your best bet would be to find a automotive spray shop and get them to match the colour and make up a couple of cans.

But,

Most manufactures supply these covers ready painted, so check with a main dealer. the paint won't match 100% but it'll be a damn sight closer then trying to spray and match it.

Thanks for quick responses everyone - its a 1999 VW Golf and the one I have found in the UK is about 22 pounds.

Was going to get the paint code from the car if I can find it tonight, and see if a dealer here can match - just not sure if this is easily done in the first place before finding out if the dealers here will oblige in selling the paint

Have had a look for a painted cover on line but I think I must be rubbish at searching - can't find any at all

check with a main dealer in the uk, they probably won't list them as painted as they all come painted! and will ask for the paint code

buy a new one for the other side as well and paint them both yellow...

Of course it might help if I searched for Door Mirror and not wing mirror - may have found a web site with silver ones.
