Just tyres: 4 x 550 + "montage" 200 = 2400 CHF

or

Tyred wheels: 4 x 330 + "montage" 130 = 1450 CHF

Is this form of fleecing common? or have any of you had a similar encounter?

You haven't said if the tires are 14" tourist tires for an Opel Vectra or 20" low profile, high performance racing tires for a Porsche turbo etc.

How are you hoping that anyone can comment one way or another?

The most competitive prices I've found in Switzerland are from Reifendirekt. They offer free delivery directly to one of their mounting partners, all of whom list their charges clearly on the website so you can shop around before committing.

Just by way of reference, I paid approximately CHF140- a tyre for top-quality winter tyre (15" wheels) and paid another 13.50- per wheel to have them mounted and balanced.

They also sell complete wheels -- a sample price for a BMW 325i came out to CHF179- per wheel with a high-quality tyre on a 16" steel wheel.

Agreed. I paid around chf 700 for 4 good quality 17" snow tires last year, delivered to a local mounting partner, and perhaps 15-20 per wheel for mounting and disposal. The tires were excellent.

As an up-to-the minute example I just paid (monday) 1200€ for four Pirelli tyres (215/55 17") on alloy wheels for my Mitsibushi 4x4 at http://www.reifen-fehrenbacher.de/ in Waldshut.

That included fitting.....and they'll also store my summer tyres until next year.

I moving to Switzerland in December and I'm taking my car. Due to this, i'm looking at Tyres and have a question... are Winter tyres mandatory or can I have a Mix Tyre ( Summer/Winter ), for example the Continetal ContiSportContact 3 and maybe using winter-chains when needed.

Whats the opinion?

no it is not mandatory. however, as you should know you can not use chains on tarmac roads and summer tyres go hard at low temperatures, offer hardly any grip on snow or ice.
looking at the conti sport contact3 you will have no chance.

over here if your car is not equiped for the conditions ( ie summer tyres in winter) and you have an accident you will be blamed by the police.

winter tyres are not expensive - do yourself a favour.....just buy a set.

My only issue is that i'm going to do about 2300km +/- from Portugal to Zurich, and was wondering about the consumption, Tyre wast etc..

as long as its not 30c the winter tyres will be fine, sure they will wear quicker then summer tyres. you *really* don't want to be on summer tyres if you hit snow and ice
