Probably. If i'm driving at around the 120 and then see someone whoosh past me and then realise he has someone on his tail who then double whooshes past the first guy, I calculate a complex algorithm in my mind which approximates to speed limit + 1 or 2 x whoosh = 160. Must get my mind fixed one of these days.
You'd be surprised how little a speed difference a "whoosh" creates. 40kmh is a big "whoosh"!
I seldom see drivers going at "whoosh" speed on that section - and that is in almost 8 years. You get people late braking for the 100kmh zone (through the tunnels) - who then sit at 100kmh as you cruise past at 106kmh.
I've got a 55 in 50 (with 3 tolerance) fine to pay - that takes my total to 200chf in 8 years (60,40,40,40,20)

Another fatal accident near Montreux- a speeding car rammed into a car in front coming out of a tunnel. I'm sure he thought he was intelligently speeding at the time and that he is the best driver ever.

On Friday night around Montreaux, I had to brake very hard when I came up behind a car doing 40 KMH just before a tunnel. Very pleased I was going at just below the 100 limit at the time.
I've been flashed three times in about 7 years, once by a rather cleverly-located fixed camera heading into Lausanne on the lake road, twice by mobile cameras from the backs of unmarked cars.
The first time, a mobile camera, I was doing about 100 in an 80 trying to get past an old van which was weaving around. On a dual carriageway...so pretty safe and I just preferred to have him behind me rather than in front. I think he'd had a glass or two.
But - they fined me and had my license for a month for that, which I thought was a bit harsh personally for a first go.
The other two times were marginally over by single digits, so just got a small fine and that was that.
I have definitely slowed down since I've lived here. Probably a good thing...

Sounds very harsh, and frankly I'm puzzled, since that's well within the normal margin where they'd just issue you with a standard fine and not go to court at all. Or did you try and contest it or something else?

Was that 100 mph in an 80 Km/h zone? Otherwise appeal it!

Nope...I sent them a letter detailing what I thought were mitigating circumstances, but didn't contest the facts of the matter. It was odd. I chose to do my month over the hols so it wasn't really a problem.

EF legend and psychic traffic accident investigator to boot. Impressive qualifications.

The autoroute tunnels between Lausanne and Montreux are very badly lit too.
It's the autoroute I use several times each week and, recently, the car infront of me drove up the wall of the tunnel and, miraculously, ended up back down on the autoroute and carried on as if nothing had happened.
It was rather like a dream sequence, but it really did happen. Luckily it was in the middle of the day when there wasn't too much traffic on the road, and this 'ere old lady was fortunately the driver behind, not driving fast.
At any other time of the day it could have caused a horrible accident, and I still can hardly believe it didn't.

I'm reminded of this classic movie scene (skip to 05:13, or just watch the whole ten minutes)
Legend has it that they were trying to get the cars to go all the way round, wall-of-death stylee, but it just didn't turn out to be possible.

I saw a report years ago that Austria had developed a curved wall, instead of a sharp curb. Driving out of the lane into the side wall, steered the car safely back onto the lane. So probably this shape of wall exists in that tunnel. When there are temporary lumps of concrete forming central barriers at road works, they are usually using this shape.
Yes, just like that, Ace1.
Fortunately he only did it once, but went up higher than in your clip.
Certainly was disconcerting driving behind him through several tunnels after that, all the way to Villeneuve.
I think it was the Chexbres turn-off tunnel, or the one just before Chexbres where he performed his party-trick.
There are two different authorities in Switzerland when it comes to speeding and traffic offenses: One will issue the fine, the other one will decide if the offense you commited additionally calls for legal proceedings (in other words, if you license is revoked).
If you pay the fine, you plea guilty to the charges, so if you want to take legal steps, DON'T pay the fine.
