Depending on which airline you are flying with, you may be able to check in your bags and get your boarding passes at your local train station the evening before.

I've never heard this before... do you have to give the rail agent the secret handshake or something? ... is there someway to find out who is signed up to this system? ( I don't think sleazy jet are )
Here's the link Grynch.

Re: Waiting for the Flight Overnight at Geneva Airport

An alternative is to check-in your luggage the day before at the train station. You'll get a boarding card. When you arrive at the airport in the early morning you just need to go through security and passport control...shouldn't take more than 30min.

PS: it's 20CHF per suitcase.

PS2: oooops someone answered already.

Re: Waiting for the Flight Overnight at Geneva Airport

As a general word of warning to people; do not stay in the Première Classe hotel in Previssin. We had a 6.15am flight and chose that hotel 'cos it was half the price of the Holiday Inn. It's advertised on Booking.com as being 2km from the airport but we got stiffed for €40 taxi rides each way and the hotel is minging!

Fully agree, it makes life much easier. Also it is both ways - you put a green ticket on the bag coming back and you pick it up at the train station next day.

Online check in. You still have to drop off luggage but it is faster than the regular check in.

BTW if you have a flight at that time you might consider staying in one of the hotels in Ferney Voltaire, there are some cheapo ones (www.booking .com)

Re: Waiting for the Flight Overnight at Geneva Airport

Thanks to everyone for the advices. We took the earliest train from Lausanne that day at 04.20 and despite the very long queue at baggage drop in and security check we managed to arrive at our gate on time.

Another recent experience is when we went to Rome and took 06.25 flight from Geneva. Took 04.20 train again from Lausanne but no checked in luggage this time and short queue at security check (due to low season perhaps-and it was Friday). We arrived at the gate around 10 minutes before boarding.
