Does your car automatically turn vintage?

In my previous thread, I asked about importing a (near) vintage auto. Now that I am here and looking at used cars, I have the following question: What happens when your car turns 30 years old? Does it automatically become vintage and thus restricted to 3000km/year driving?

Looking at the information I got previously; It seems as though you *can* register your car as vintage, but I don't see anything that says you *have* to register your car as vintage. I ask because this would obviously effect the value of used cars. If your used car isn't particularly interesting and about to become restricted to 3000km/year, I don't think many people would want it.

Re: Does your car automatically turn vintage?

It's a choice, MFK only required every 5 years is the only advantage I can see.

Re: Does your car automatically turn vintage?

No.

Advantage is that you can have one plate for seven (rather than the normal two), but usage is severely limited.

4 years to go for the Passat

Yes that is right - a mid 80s Passat is now over 25 years old - I can remember them being desirable when new
