My brother, with family and two dogs! is presently en-route from UK back to his home in Kefalonia.

Unfortunately his car has broken down in Bellinzona. It is a serious problem. He suspects a head gasket. He has been quoted locally for a repair, but considers it more cost effective to have the car transported to Ancona in Italy where he can meet his own mechanic from Kefalonia, and complete the journey by ferry.

Has anyone any contacts /leads or suggestions as to who he might contact in Switzerland / Italy to arrange the cost effective transport of his car.

Unfortunately his language capabilities are limited to English. He is also not a member of any Motoring organisation!

One option is to call his insurer. Some insurance providers include 24hour roadside assistance (without a motor association membership). He may not have it, or maybe doesn't know about it. Might be worth a phonecall though, just to be sure.

It also might be worthwhile to look into the annual fee for a membership and see if he can join now. In the past I have been able to join when I needed it most, and the cost of the membership was less than it would have been just for the tow (nevermind the repair).

He's already checked and his insurance, and they can't help. Also the local motoring organisation will only recover him to the nearest garage.

He is presently secure in a hotel. The car has already been recovered from the roadside, and he has been quoted £4500 for parts only for a repair, so that is well out of the equation.

Another option is to transport the car to just inside the Italian border, and either repair, or arrange onward transport from here.

It's someone to do the transportation that I'm presently looking for.
