But it is useful if you have a 'commute car' to use during the week and then a 'chuck everything in the boot' car at weekends for example.
Also noticed some people have 2 cars, one more for winter and the other for summer, it depends what storage they have for them. Have noticed how some they take excellent care of their cars and keep them for years.

Re: Is this true?...Max 3 cars and 1 plate ?

Don't forget that you can't park a car on the public highway without plates, as the number plates are the equivilent of the road tax.
You need a private parking space or a garage.

Is it difficult to kinda do your homework a bit rather than expecting to be spoon-fed bit by bit?

As Shorrick Mk2 says, it's very difficult to answer this type of question, so much depends on whereabouts in Switzerland you're planning to live, as well as what type of housing; a house, an appartment, etc.
In certain places parking is a huge problem, it certainly is in Geneva, and not everyone earns enough to afford a permanent space to put a car that's off the road.
If you do know where, when, and so forth, then the search function on here is very useful; as a lot of your questions have been asked before!

I´ve just heard that a person in Switzerland can have 3 cars, and only one badge... its that true?
No.

Austria is three, but here it's only two (for normal plates, antique is seven as I recall).

I have four of my bikes on two plates, and separate plates for the other two.

Amount you pay depends on the canton, here you pay road tax for both, but rebate you 75% of the second, but you only pay insurance on the more expensive of the two.

Tom

Re: Is this true?...Max 3 cars and 1 plate ?

We have many friends here who have 2 vehicles with one set of plates - a 'normal' car and a Motorhome/sleeper for week-ends and holidays. But as said, you CAN"t drive both at the same time, unless you pay for another set of plates, taxes, etc. Never ever heard of any K/Canton where you can have 3 vehicles on one set of plates. And of course you need 2 vignettes for Motorways- and can't swap them from one to the other.

The maximum of 2 cars per set of plates rule is indeed a federal one and therefore it's the same in all cantons. What differs by canton is how much road tax you pay.

I remember that when I went to Germany, part of the taxes were included in the fuel, so, the more you use the road, the more fuel you spend, the more you pay... that is an awesome tax system because no one pay more or less than what they should pay...
