Martigny to Chamonix

I have to travel to Chamonix from La Neuveville early this evening around 6-7pm and I wondered if the if the mountain pass with the very strange train tunnel is open 24hrs and is passable or if there is a website with timetable for openings if not?

Thanks for your help

The road is closed for cars today, due to heavy snow fall and avalanche risk. The train will run about 1 time an hour, sometimes cars can drive through the tunnell. I have to get from Verbier to Chamonix tonigh so will drive via Geneva adding 2 hours to my journey time.

Ouch!! Many thanks.. Luckily it looks like it will only add 40km and 30mins extra on to my journey Is there a site for the weather conditions of that road? I went through 2 weeks ago and had to wait 4hrs for the tunnel to open. Geneva it is for me too then! I hope it's open on Tuesday as I have to be in Verbier then too!

cheers

info is on the www.chamonix.com website, they also have the train timetable.

Road conditions & Getting there will be where you need to look.

Re: Martigny to Chamonix

Whilst driving over Forclas there were about 5 signs saying that the connection with France was closed, however it is Open & I am now in Chamonix. It won't be cold tonight which is good news as I have to leave for work in Geneva tomorrow morning at 4.30 am!
