Re: Just passed a red light... :(

Speaking from personal experience, CHF 250 for the red light + admin expenses = around CHF 500 fine. If you passed within 1-2 seconds of it turning red, it is a lesser offence than passing it long after it was red.
You can also serve jailtime or do social service in case you do not want to pay the fine. 1 day of Swiss prison might be something you want to tell your grandchildren about one day (or not ).

I'm still not sure if it flashed for speeding or just red light, or both?! I guess normally it flashes twice when it records high speed, but is it the case for the red light too?
....
Could it be the case that the flash went on both for passing red light and speeding, or will it be just one of the two?
Thanks!
Com' on: the flash goes off twice so that they surely have a picture of you with the license plate visible. The flash is neither for detecting you passing a red light nor for checking speed. They use different tech, for that. The pics are only as evidence.

The car was definitely moving unfortunately Junction of Route de Chavannes - Chemin du Bois-de-Vaux (close to VidyMed). Where would you look this up?! Thanks a lot!
Sorry mate but it is a combo camera (redlight+speeding). Look up in www.trapster.com...

Thanks for the info! I'm already saving for the big fine... Should I expect a license ban too?! Or I'm just hoping that I get too lucky and the flash was only due to the high speed! The red light was really marginal...

Re: Just passed a red light... :(

This got me thinking what kind of offence it is to pass through a pedestrian crossing (zebra stripes ) without stopping if there's a child there ready to cross it? Seen plenty of this kind of offenders in Zug, always nervous for the child's commute to school for that reason. The right hand turn onto a crossing with the green light on for the pedestrians is another thing, see a lot of cars passing just in front of the child trying to cross the road on green light..

Re: Just passed a red light... :(

Swiss judges have stopped Swiss websites publishing radar information, however our neighbours are helpful: type in the location, Lausanne, Schweiz

http://www.radarfalle.de/radarfallen/karte.php

From the map you can see that some crossroads have both radar and red light detectors, click on the symbol for further details (Direction, speed limit)

You committed the offence 90mins ago - and you are saving already??? How did you manage that???

In what country does the amber light mean "floor the throttle you'll be ok"???

I'm all for draconian punishment for traffic offences - and, yes, I did just get a 40chf letter for 55 in a 50 zone. I was stupid, I got caught!!

Re: Just passed a red light... :(

it will be about 250 for the red light if you skimmed through and as for speed, your speedo reads about 4kmh over.

a friend was flashed in zurich doing 66 in a 50, he had a 1500 franc fine , was in an area of a limit change

USA. But you have to be an alien. Not the immigration type though.

Starman: I do know the rules.
Jenny Hayden: Oh, for your information pal, that was a *yellow* light back there!
Starman: I watched you very carefully. Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast.

Green means "Go fast"
Yellow means "Go faster"
Red means "Next three cars please".

For the OP, I'm sure you're already suitable chagrined. Now work out how much time you saved on a your journey by pushing the limits. Would it have made much difference to your arrival time?

The emergency services use speed, because every second counts. And that's usually what you save. Seconds.

Tip: if you're going to be late, slow right down. Stop for a coffee. If you're a few minutes late, it looks like bad planning. If you're half an hour late, it looks like unfortunate circumstances got in your way.

Re: Just passed a red light... :(

Happened to me once too, driving down Av. de Tivoli westbound, there's a downhill slope and the traffic light is just at the bottom. *flash* *flash*. Looked at the speed, 60. (and the speed indicator is pretty much GPS-accurate).
That was about 2 years ago. No feedback from the authorities.

Just a quick update on my case after 4 months: I haven't received any fines or bills yet!! Quite strange though, but I guess I was just being lucky and the photo was perturbed or something... Is it possible that I still receive the fine after 4 months?!

When I got flashed near Bonne-Espérance for 1 km over the limit the fine arrived in cca 1 week.

Maybe you passed on yellow after all?

If you're on swiss plates, and the car is swiss registered, and you live at a swiss address...I think it's safe to say you're in the clear.

Rack this one up to "experience", and remember that amber = "prepare to stop", not "accelerate".

More likely the pictures were not clear enough to distinguish the car, or the crime to put prosecution "beyond a reasonable doubt".

ie if they were blurry, obstructed, overexposed, too slow, number plate unreadable etc, then the chances of you appealling - and winning - would be high. So they may have elected not to attempt prosecution.

Same here. Once got flashed at the redlight Avenue du Léman/Bonne-Espérance, fine was issued two days later and arrived within about a week.

Pretty sure that you should be safe after almost four months.

I just passed a red light an hour ago, saw the flash went on twice! I'm still not sure if it flashed for speeding or just red light, or both?! I guess normally it flashes twice when it records high speed, but is it the case for the red light too?

The situation was: I was in a hurry, and just pushed on the gas pedal when I saw yellow, but RIGHT WHEN I GOT TO THE JUNCTION it turned red... and after noticing the flashes, I had a look at my speed and it was in the 60-65 km/h range... (50 zone). So what do you think I should expect for passing a red light (surely < 1 second) with such speed? Could it be the case that the flash went on both for passing red light and speeding, or will it be just one of the two? Any danger of huge fine/bans?!

Thanks!
