Just passed a red light... :(

I just passed a red light an hour ago, saw the flash went on twice! I'm still not sure if it flashed for speeding or just red light, or both?! I guess normally it flashes twice when it records high speed, but is it the case for the red light too?

The situation was: I was in a hurry, and just pushed on the gas pedal when I saw yellow, but RIGHT WHEN I GOT TO THE JUNCTION it turned red... and after noticing the flashes, I had a look at my speed and it was in the 60-65 km/h range... (50 zone). So what do you think I should expect for passing a red light (surely < 1 second) with such speed? Could it be the case that the flash went on both for passing red light and speeding, or will it be just one of the two? Any danger of huge fine/bans?!

Thanks!

Serious?! Would this really help? I wouldn't think these things are negotiable here in Switzerland! And besides, will explaining my speeding up to pass yellow be of any help?

Re: Just passed a red light... :(

somewhere.... perhaps on one of the posts listed below as similar threads there is a chart detailing amount of fine per Km over posted speed limit.

personal opinion you won't be too bad on the speed limit ... 10km over the posted limit ( allowing a grace of 5 km )

but speeding combined with running a red light ( if indeed they get you for both ) ... sorry but I wouldnt even want to comment.

probably just a good fine tho.

oh yes.. I'm certain that explaining to the officer you were only speeding up to get thru a signal that is telling you to slow down... oh ya, that'll help.

That would be the best case I think! 250CHF including speeding? Or you think high speed hasn't been recorded?

Go to the police and explain that your car wasn't where you left it, but that you highly suspect the band of mischevious Oompaloopmas that were roaming through your neighborhood last night of going for a joy ride.

If you add that the Oompaloompas are foreign, that will add bonus points.

I have never seen a speed camera at traffic lights and as far as I am aware the lights flash twice anyway so i think you will only get the red light fine, which if it happened as you say should only be 250chf.

On the other hand I might be completely wrong and you are facing 3 months in jail for speeding through a red light.

Thanks so much! According to this, the camera records probably both red light passing and speeding Any idea of the fine/license ban I should expect?

Unlikely - Yellow means stop unless it is not safe to do so as you are saying you went faster to try to beat the yellow turning to red then you have limited chance to even explain this away.

!
Especially for the red lights so that they can prove your car was moving. If they see in both of the pictures your car on the same spot, they may forgive you.
Which junction is this? Perhaps I can look it up for you whether there was also a speeding camera.

The car was definitely moving unfortunately Junction of Route de Chavannes - Chemin du Bois-de-Vaux (close to VidyMed). Where would you look this up?! Thanks a lot!

Unlucky there...

Moral of the story is: Amber = Stop [ unless you know there are no cameras ]
