Bringing Bicycles to Zurich

Hi All. I noticed in Zurich that push bikes have registration numbers. If we bring our bicycles there is it easy to register or would we need original receipts/proof of identity?

Bikes don't have registration numbers. Are you sure you're not looking at the for-hire ones, or electric ones?

Or did you mean the small insurance sticker?

also what do you mean by "push bikes"? like the little children's scooters?
the insurance thing can be bought quite cheaply at a kiosk apparently.

Re: Bringing Bicycles to Zurich

Pushbike = bicycle = velo / fahrrad ?

In Switzerland, we do not use "license plates " for these bikes cf. Singapore and other countries.

Bike insurance / Velovignette is required, for less than CHF6 if still required ( we have several threads on this issue )

You will have no problems bringing your bicycles (velos) we did the same. As of this year you no longer need the vignitte which was an insurance sticker however you need to make sure you private insurance covers third party and liability (most do and mine has confirmed it in writing on the 2012 renewal)

Yes. In British English 'pushbike' is a normal term. 'Bike' may also refer to a motorcycle, 'biker' always a motorcyclist , 'cycle' and 'cyclist' only ever to a pedal bike.

Some bikes can be seen around with number plates (in Basel, certainly) usually very old ones, so I've always assumed that it used to be a requirement in years gone by.
