Re: second hand car with guarantee safe to buy?

Anyone knows if http://www.autoscout24.ch is a good page to look for used cars?

As FMF says, the warranty is usually from a 3rd party insurer and only covers big items like head gasket, gearbox etc.
There are all kinds of 3rd party warranties on the market. The most basic ones just cover the drivetrain but some cover almost everything. I have one that even covers things like cruise control, heated mirrors or memory seats.

Yes. Autoscout and www.car4you.ch are the most popular sites.

Re: second hand car with guarantee safe to buy?

I'd say autoscout should be the last resort. A MUCH better alternative is to just drive around (or have a friend drive you) during a few weekends and look at as many cars as possible. Firstly the prices should be lower than on autoscout. Second, but maybe more important, you can inspect the car closely, maybe talk to the dealer about it etc.

I personally stalked my current car for almost a year...might have overdone it a little

Re: second hand car with guarantee safe to buy?

The paint looks a bit strange. On this car the light doesn't fall off evenly on all panels. The boot and tailgate reflect different colours at the joints to the body where it curves. Although the car may look the same colour in daylight, this could be the result of different thickness in the clear coat of the paint, combined with the camera angle and flash, suggesting respray. Also, the gap between the rear right side door and the body looks too large. I can see too thick a line in the photo on the rear door jamb curve. That is most worrying to me.

When I was looking for a second hand car I tried this approach once or twice and found it a huge timewaster. It might work well if you just want/need a car but don't really know what you want or if you simply enjoy driving around looking for a car.

I knew quite exactly what I wanted and I found searching on autoscout to be much more efficient.

I never noticed a difference on prices and once you find a suitable car on autoscout you can still inspect it, talk to the dealer, etc.

Arrange to take it to a local garage and have it checked over thoroughly. I wouldn't worry about the mileage so much. Sounds like a Sunday driver.

I found a great car on Autoscout. You just have to keep searching and walk away at the first sign of trouble. Trust your gut.
