New Car

All,

Firstly thanks to all who gave their inputs whilst I decided which car I buy. Now that I have decided that, time for delivery. I pick up my new car in 2 weeks and its on a lease arrangement.

I have arranged for the car insurance, legal protection, third party liability and for winter tyres to be put on. Do I need to take care of anything else that I have missed out? Pls advise

Many thanks

Re: New Car

Make sure that an Autobahnvignette is stuck to the windscreen. Most likely the dealer will provide one, but better safe than sorry, especially now that the fine for not having one has been doubled to 200 Francs.

I am a newbie too. Could someone please explain what this legal protection insurance is for? Does the regular comprehensive car insurance not cover this? Also, do you need two legal protection policies - one for the car issues and one for everything else? I learn about a new insurance policy being required every day

To cover legal costs. E.g. if you cause a car accident you will usually get a fine and possibly have your license suspended for a few months. Now whether you have a good lawyer or no lawyer at all can make quite a difference, e.g. how high the fine will be or whether your license will be suspended or not.

Most companies offer two different types of policies: one for car/road traffic-related issues and one for everything else.
Legal insurance is not mandatory, I would recommend it though.
