Aggressive driving

I drive daily from Kloten to city.
Today had a strange driving experience , I would call it road rage.
On a single lane which joins multi lane road ,I see a 60kmph sign and was going on 70+ so took my foot off the gas to reach 60-65ish at the sign.
This lady in her Merc was behind me and gave me the high beam and near the sign honked me even though I was over the limit. She could not overtake as it was single lane.Once the multilane was reached she overtook me from right and if I read her lips right she said "wtf".Mind you all this time limit was still 60.

I was totally surprised at her reaction.

I see this sort of driving behavior all the time as well. Seems like there's always a fire somewhere....

Me2, not on this stretch though.

Favourite example, one time I am driving on the right hand lane of a two lane Autobahn I use regularily. Driving at the legal limit confirmed by my GPS.

Guy behind me is flashing his lights & blowing horn. Turns out he wanted to leave at the next exit & (I assume) did not want to overtake me so wanted that I should drive faster. also WTF

Re: Agressive driving

Just because someone has the money to afford the lease repayments on a powerful exec. type car, doesn't mean they have the ability and temperament to drive it.

Another uptight female trying to balance the more important aspects of modern life, with a meaningless, unrewarding high-pressure, so-called high-flyer career, bathing in her own self-importance ..... ha!

Couple that with PMT/PMS and you get this intolerant, impatient attitude to everyone in her way.

An accident waiting to happen ..... shoot the bitch.

Re: Agressive driving

I think the best approach to something such as this is to put a big, s*#t-eating grin on your face and wave to the person as they pass you like (s)he's your long-lost best friend.

Makes 'em even madder, hopefully.

or slow down like a child just ran out in front of you. If the ABS doesn't kick in, you didn't try hard enough.

Re: Agressive driving

Motorbikes are good for this game btw - simply overtake them again, then slow back down to the right speed.

Repeat until they burst a blood vessel.

thats exactly what i do, also if someone is driving so close i cant see the headlights a quick dab of the brakes tends to work.

also blowing a kiss as they pass tends to annoy them slightly

That is actually the safest thing to do.

If she's driving close behind you then by slowing down and thus slowing her down in the process, you're giving her more of a chance to brake and slow down without crashing into the back of you if you have to suddenly slow down because of an accident or other incident in front of you.

There are many legal ways of controlling the actions of others to make your own journey safer.

the real funny thing is, how come these people get around driving like that all the time and whenever I happen to speed a bit, I get caught by the radar?

Why did she have to overtake on your right on a two lane road? were you on the left lane then with space on the right lane

That can get you in deep sh1t. In German it's called willkürliche Bremsung or Schikanebremsung and is considered a traffic offense.

I thought that the law was on "your side" with the claim that the person behind didn't keep enough distance to stop. How they can prove that there was no animal, other vehicle etc in front of you? Tailgating is also illegal.

Re: Agressive driving

I sometimes have the opposite problem (disclamer: i drive the limit 99.999% of the time and obey traffic rules to the best of my knowledge), some people just hog the left lane and don't budge no matter what. Last week driving through Germany:

1. No speed limit, I catch up to a 530d at about 140km/h. The following 20km this guy would not let me pass him. I didn't flash him or turn on my signal, but it was pretty obvious especially when hitting slower traffic and then accelerating that I caught up with him quickly and had to let off the gas. He FINALLY let me pass him and when I did, he started gesturing and muttering.

2. Speed limit 120km/h, I catch up to a van doing 110km/h. For some reason, this guy also didn't consider using the right lane and just stayed in the left lane. After about 5km, I turned on my left signal (no flashing). This actually seemed to make the guy crazy: he braked to about 100km/h and continued driving like that. After a couple more km, with a queue forming behind, I overtook him on the right (I know, illegal ). When I did, this guy, with a van, actually tried to accelerate and not let me do it. After I passed him, he started flashing me, gesturing, giving me the finger together with his wife (!!!) and actually tailgating me until the 120km/h limit ended and I took off.

3. Driving on some national roads, when I overtook people doing 90km/h in a 100km/h zone, quite a few of them either flashed me or gave me the finger.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Agressive driving

When being tail-gated, lifting your foot off the pedal is legal, but heavy breaking is not. But don't forget on the Autobahn there is a minimum speed limit of 60 km/h.

I would expect the woman worked at an Embassy in the city and was excused prosecutions, if someone drove like that every day they would soon be "taken out". If you see her again get her number!

It is just possible to "undertake" when a single lane merges with a dual carriageway. If there is a solid white line on your side and a broken line on hers, it is a legal manoeuvre.
