Parking Fines

Hi I was issued parking fines for parking in a residential permit area.
I have German plates.
I am not registered as a Swiss resident.
Is it critical that I pay these fines? Will it limit my ability to revisit Switzerland in the future?

Many thanks for your advise in advanced.

Is it your car? If not, do you care if the owner is stopped one day over your parking fine?

Is the car still in Switzerland? If so, and you don't pay the fine, you are liable to be stopped for the outstanding fine.

If it's a hire car it will definitely come back to bite you.

In a nutshell, usually, it's best to pay up.

Yes it is my car,
it is out of Switzerland and,
I am going to sell the car.
In this case do you still recommend paying?

Many thanks for you informative and straight reply.

The fine will come to your registered (where the car is registered) address in Germany.

The Swiss Police are like an elephant - grit your teeth and pay it.

Re: Parking Fines

One of my German friend with a German plated car received a fine which he chucked in the bin. The fine, if i remember correctly, was 80 or 100 CHF. After 3 years he came back to Zürich for a meeting and parked his car in a proper legal parking place. To his surprise the car was clamped so he called to the police. Police gave the reason of clamping the car as non payment of previous fines. He ended up paying quite heavy amount "on Spot" to remove the clamp.

Lesson learned: Just pay the bloody fine
