Seniors discount for trains? ( at 65 )

I think I saw a reduced price GA for older people. I also saw 1/2 price tickets for children. Does anyone know if you get 1/2 price tickets if you are over a certain age, and if so, what that age is?

Pensioners get the GA at almost half price to my knowledge.

It is roughly a 25% discount; how many pensioners have that much money & want to travel so much - no other benefits offered.

For comparison Deutsch Bahn have a better deal for pensioners (in German)

My brother is 72- he travels all the time, all over Switzerland, and he loves it. He does not have much money, but he does NOT have a car- so I'd say this is excellent value for money. How much does it cost to buy, insure, tax, repair, devalue- a car + petrol If we didn't live in a rural area, we would do the same. CHF2550 per year for unlimited travel is excellent value compared to running a car I'm sure.

My OH is now an OAP and because we run a car, the GA would be very expensive on top.

Re: Seniors discount for trains? ( at 65 )

Slightly off topic, but in my early days in Basel, there was an old dear having trouble with the tram ticket machine.

"Kann ich helfen Sie?", said I in my best (but, I realised later, terrible) German.

So, anyways, I looked at the woman and guessed she was well above retirement age and pressed the right buttons to get her a half-price ticket.

I made a criminal of a little old lady.

Though, if she was Swiss, she might have had a halbtax.

Re: Seniors discount for trains? ( at 65 )

Thanks. I was asking regarding just standard single purchase tickets, not GA or other Abo/Half-tax.

It seems like there is no such discount for old people, just for kids.

sometimes it is nice to have an entertaining answer instead of an efficient one
