Re: Buying an used car - seeking advice

Some time ago we also considered a Subaru (Outback). In your shoes I would consider one of two things:

- take the Subaru of choice to the local Subaru garage and have it inspected;
- look at Audi Quattro or BMW 3xx iX: both 4WD vehicles and in huge variety.

Whatever you pick, best of luck

Avoid cars with low mileages, they are always overpriced and with worn engines as they drive short distances & the engine never gets a chance to warm up.
Interesting... I have heard about this theory too

Well mechanical devices work best when used often, most engine wear occurs in the first few seconds when an engine is started from cold. If the engine only runs for 5 minutes then it won't be hot enough for long enough so moisture will condense in the oil & the exhaust will always be wet inside.
I had a a second classic car, I would not start it unless I would drive for 30km or ideally 50km.

Re: Buying an used car - seeking advice

Dear Efers,

I have been using the inputs from many of the threads in this section at every stage of my ongoing used car search . I have zeroed in on a car and as agreed , the owner got the MFK done before the sale

This is a 3 year old Mini , 40K on the dail. Although the car passed MFK , following was the remark on the MFK certificate (in french)

"910 Ressorts
Marque ressorts: H+R
Identification av : 29090 VA
Identification arr: 29090 HA

Section du ressort / Nbre Spires
avant: 12 mm noir metalic
Arrière: 11 mm noir metalic
Distance, centre moyeu - bord d'aile
avant: 330 mm
arrière: 342 mm"

I understand this is to do with the suspension level in front and back wheels . I am not expecting a mint condition car but are those remarks cause for red flags and a future cause of bankruptcy?

Even though I am getting a second opinion from an expert tomorrow , I would appreciate if some of the EF experts to weigh in..

thanks in advance.

cheers.
