'Can I bring my car' from different perspective

Hi guys!

Need some advice, since I could not find similar precedent on EF:

I am an EU national and should be relocating to CH soon (and become a resident) and I checked the options to bring my EU car and use it for app. 1 year after registration with the Swiss customs.
I've been driving this car in Italy for more than 1 year and should not owe import, VAT etc. during the first year in Switzerland but the problem is that the legal owner of my car is actually...my sister, since she bought it for me and I never bothered transferring its property
The car has insurance and even a notary certified letter from my sister from more than 1 year ago that I could use, drive, sell and do everything with the car (which I even translated and legalized in German language!).

This was never a problem in Italy, of course, what about CH?

The car is not yours, this will cause you all sorts of hassle

Before you bring the car into the country, make it your car: ie, transfer the ownership from your sister to you.

Then you will have no problems

Thank you for your response, FriendlyKiwi!

This would (legally) mean I have not owned the car for more than 6 months and I would have to import it and change the plates immediately, wouldn't it?

I wanted to avoid all the import hassle (and paying double VAT!), since I have planned to use this car in CH for up to 1 year, until I settle down, find permanent accommodation and lease a new car, then bring my little red SAAB back to Bulgaria and use it there when going back for the holidays, let's see...

Correct.
Currently, you do not own the car. It is not yours.

Your ownership of the car starts from... (drum roll).... when you own it.

The sooner you own it, the sooner it is yours

Until the date you own it, it is not your car.

No, if you can show that you have used it. see here:

My car has been used by me for more than six (6) months but the papers of the vehicle are in the name of my father/ mother/ employer. How do I proceed?

In addition to the documents belonging to the vehicle a declaration from the person/company shown in the documents has to be submitted. It must be clear which person(s), from when and for what reason the vehicle was used by the person(s) other than those mentioned in the documents belonging to the vehicle.

Thank you so much, Ullainga!

I will ask my sister to sign and legally translate in German a letter saying that she permormed the administrative paperwork, however the only driver and 'de facto' owner of the car was me for more than 1 year.

I hope it all works out!
