Importing Motorbike ( Enfield ) from India

I want to import my brother's Royal Enfield ( 3 months old) from India to here.
The Brand does not exist in der Schweiz.
How do I deal with Strassenverkehrsamt to get the bike passed thru MFK.

Please advise.

Thanks

Re: Importing bike from India

1. Get the tech specs sheet, if possible translate to DE
2. Contact the strassenverkehrsamt for a contact and submit this sheet.
3. Pray for an answer.

I did hear someone here in Zurich having an Indian Enfield, you are not the first.

Hope this helps.

Well there is an authorised dealer of Royal Enfield in kanton ZH. (http://www.royalenfield.com/motorcyc...r.aspx?type=ld)

Gespannservice Bättig
Botzen 17
Telephone: 00415230012400
MobileEmail:info@gespannservice.ch
Contact Person:Köbi Bättig

but the imported Royal Enfield seems to be quite expensive.

You might wanna get in touch with Swiss Royal Enfield motorbike club http://www.royalenfield.ch/ for some guidelines for doing the import.

http://www.indiabikes.com/ might help you as well

Cheers

Well known, iconic Fritz W. Egli in Bettwil/Aargau used to be the Enfield importer.

hans1 has become a little unpopular
Re: Importing Motorbike ( Enfield ) from India

I brought my '68 Royal Enfield back from India to the Netherlands a few years ago.

My advice: don't do it and just buy one here.. believe me, in the end this will save you a lot of hassle and unexpected expenses.

Furthermore, the REs produced for the Indian market are of inferior quality with respect to paintjob/chrome parts. On top of that you have to convert the bike to the EUR4 norm, which is a costly matter. So unless you have some sentimental attachment to the bike, (which I did) do not get into this!

As an alternative, you could just import one from DE or the UK.

Hi - did you manage to do the import in the end?
I'm returning to Switzerland soon and really don't want to part with my Classic 500!
