Ok, hands up I’m guilty… a week ago Sunday, 7:00am, not another car on the road ( or so I thought ) I crossed a double white line essentially making an illegal U-turn to access the underground parking near where I work.
Unfortunately the road was not empty and just as I’m getting out of my car in the underground a police cruiser comes down the ramp. The officer was very nice, asked for my license and just explained he had to send the paperwork in and I would receive a notification at home.
Does anyone know what that notification is likely to say? , fixed fine?
I'm not 100% sure, but you could possibly face suspension of your driving privileges.

Re: illegal U-turn

I paid CHF 40 while crossing a double-white in a car (to turn left where it was not allowed), but that was 20 years ago.

No court, either, just an on-the-spot fine.

I knew I could count on EF ..
so far the ( intelligent ) answers range from a fine of Chf 40.-- to loss of license.

I guess I'll just wait for the post.

Didn't you ask the police officer about possible consequences? He should have an idea, at least know whether it's only a fine or could go via a judge.

I think you exhausted your bad luck by being caught on a Sunday at 7am, it can only get better.

I asked but he wasn't very helpful at that point, just explained that he will submit his report and "in a few days" I'll receive notification.

I'm sorry, but that's the fine for bicycles.
It could be a very useful piece of information for him though. If, by some unhappy chance, he loses his licence for a bit, it's a bike he'll be riding. Nice to know that if he goes over the double white line on it, it'll come out cheaper.

Re: illegal U-turn

Ouch... I did this in Zurich (full U-turn over double continuous line), and got spotted by Police van coming from the opposite direction... fine came home 2 weeks later: including admin. fees and all 650CHF! Now, I don't even want to make a U-turn where it's legal to do so!

You're not obtuse. You're acute!

I knew there was a reason I was so paranoid about making u-turns. I just can't do them, even when they are legal. I get nervous and go all the way around. The GPS really makes me crazy when she says "make a u-turn".

I know that wait must be driving (hehe) you crazy. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. I have faith that it won't be so bad for your first offense. And we can buy your burgers if you don't have anymore money to eat.

:
quick GPS story... driving in England a couple of months ago I used TomTom on my phone to find a particular pub in a tiny village... got to the pub threw the phone in my pocket but forgot to turn off TomTom...

Mrs. G goes to bar orders... I go to the men's room to "freshen up" ... walk into the stall, settle in and suddenly a ladies voice booms out of my pocket...

"TURN AROUND NOW"

two guys in adjoining stalls ran for the door.
