Hello all,

I bought a SAAB 93 that is 3 years old about 2 months. I have 2 years guarantee through an insurance company. It has now broken down for the second time. The garage I took it to the first time is not reliable. Can anyone recommmend a good garage that repairs any make of car?
How do the prices compare for car repair in France, germany and Basel? It seems to me that germany is the cheapest.

ALWAYS GERMANY and you can claim back the tax on the repairs if you live in CH

You state you are in France, so how can we reccommend a garage when we don't know where you live?

Will your (Presumably) French insurance policy pay for a repair in Germany?

Sorry I didn't introduce myself. I live near Basel/Mulhouse airport. I am married with 3 kids 13, 9 and 5 years. Hubby works for BASF. Currently doing a second degree in Sciences. Enjoy walking, cooking, eating curry and getting pisssed.(Not all at the same time). I am currently reading Fifity shades darker just because it's summer and that's the type of trashy novel I read during the holidays.

I can go to a German garage but I will lose the T.V.A on the bill. Still this may be a better option since I've only had bad experiences at french garages. Mainly with over pricing but also shabby workmanship.

Try Germany if you have the choice between France and Germany. Having lived in both countries I've found German garages better and the training of mechanics more thorough. Maybe I just had bad luck in my choices of garages in France.

But I presume, if the repairs are over 300 you must declare them as well, right?

I use them for winter wheels/tyres and they do repairs and servicing. They deduct the tax if you live in Swiss.

Garages are full of idiots who enjoy making life difficult for women. Take the car to a German garage and take a man with you, let him do all the talking. You will then get good service.

Groan if you must, but this is the way things are here (and there).

Thanks very much for your advice. The german garage in schliengen is only 35 minutes drive away. I will check it out with my husband.
