What causes bigger depreciation KMs or Year ?

Given a good service history, what do you think knocks more off a car's value in Switzerland.. it's age or it's mileage (and what's the metric equivalent of that word ?).

I get the impression that a 3 year old car with 200k is priced higher than, say, a 6 year old car (same model, same spec) with 100k.

Suppose I could do the research, but I'm interested in people's subjective feeling.

The answer is both, but year first here. The Kms are then taken into account on a depreciation table.

How would you figure in the model year of the car (most models change in about September from what I understand) and the year/month that the car is registered (plates put on the car).

In all of the car ads here they tend to mention the month/year that the car was registered.

Thoughts?

Well...

Registration or matriculation date is the main "date" the manufacture date comes into play more in other ways. For example, if there are 2 BMW M3s both say 1996 registered the type would come into the cost and description one may be 5k the other 10 trade value per charts, both have the same mileage and condition the price difference comes from one is a 95 made 3 litre 5 speed With 286 PS and the other a 96 3.2 six speed evo with 321. Both on the surface are called M3s tho.

Another Less obvious M3 example:

Fast forward to 2009. Two cars like above, one car is a facelift model LCI with with different trim and LED rear lights made in 09 vs the late 08car but still both registered in 09.

It's just an example...

A facelift model is a car that is the same body and chassis type that has subtle changes to "modernise" the range pre new complete models coming out. BMW and merc are notorious for this, for example grill changes, light changes, colour coding bumpers etc. think back to orange indicators vs clear ones etc...

Indeed.

Two of my Ducatis were manufactured in 2003, but one has a 2005 first registration, the other a 2008!

You can tell the date of manufacture via the VIN, BTW.

I would have to say that the age kills the value more than miles, but only to a certain limit.

For example, my 2005MY (but built in Oct 2004) X-Type has only 67'000kms and is worth less than a 2007MY car with 100'000kms, with the exact same spec.

But if the milage climbs higher than the psychological 100K mark, values start to drop dramatically...

No need to mention that car prices (new & used) in Switzerland can only be described as taking the
