Re: No engine size badges on new cars?

Yes, I think is kind of silly, but I never liked the 2 seat roadsters. Even if the rear sits are almost never used and mostly occupied by the wind deflector. I allways prefer the 4 seats models, I find the 2 seats to short and girly. I had the E36 before and now I am happy with my E46, the M6 pictured above will be my next car ( on my dreams that is ), the day they put out a Hydrogen version of it.

However I allways liked the Z3. The Z4 on the other side I don't like it much, looks too angular to me.

Midlife crisisists often buy "muscle cars" with big engines to compensate their own strenght in decline.

Me I am happy with a little engine, more enviromental friendly... And the convertible is to enjoy the air and sun, I have had convertibles since a long, long time.

The gasoline-girls are not of my liking anyway....

OK, so removing the engine size badge is more discreet. But what's the reason for removing the model badge?
Automobiles with numerical model badges sometimes indicate engine size or a specific series of models which share a similar engine.

Pay and display

zzzzzzzz

Joke:

A teenage girl stands before a mirror and thinks "Hmm, I have the body of a woman"

A teenage boy stands in front of his bike and thinks "Hmm, if I put these stickers on, it'll look really cool..."

Given that he pays tax for all the horsepower and the car passed the test, I don't see how mislabeling a car is illegal. Maybe a case for trademark law but who would label his BMW as Maybach or Fiat?

Re: No engine size badges on new cars?

I've decided to de-badge the car. I don't think I could cope with the shame of people knowing I have a big engine. I also intend to plant some trees, and wash my clothes less often.

Re: No engine size badges on new cars?

Only works with cars within the same "series" i.e. a 525 or a 530 or a 550. With a sports car you know it has some serious twist under the hood, badges or not.

LOL!

On a serious note, given the preference for unbadged cars, it might make it easier to sell, if you end up doing that here.

Why not just buy a car that you couldn't confuse with its weedier engined brother?

Better still, why not get one with a smaller engine. It will still do 120kph on the autobahn, cost you less to run and insure and still pull the crumpet...

That is for sure.

I use a 2 lt. engine on an sports car and is more than enough.

I think to drive in the city, highway and climb some hills even 1.6 lt would be enough.

I had to get the 2 lt. as this is the smallest 6 cilinder they offer.

Smaller engine does'nt always mean 'greener'. For instance, the 518i BMW they made for a few years gets much worse gas mileage than the 525i (underpowered car for the weight so the engine has to be driven at much higher RPM).

You also get better gas mileage when you shift so as to avoid high revolutions.

Best solution is to ride the tram and walk and use your car on weekends only.

Having driven one, I can confirm that. It's not just large bodied cars either, as the Polo I drove many moons ago only got 23 mpg on a long motorway trip. It was also pretty knackering - in a larger car I could do Leeds to London and back in a day and still feel refreshed.

My crumpet pulling days are long over and my wife fulfils all present crumpet requirements. So I am free to choose any car without regard to it's appeal to the crumpet club.

A smaller engine would be cheaper, but only slightly more economical because the car is big and heavy. Oooops, I've done it now. The shame of it all

It's all about torque you see. That feeling of effortless progress whatever the incline. It's very addictive and I have no intention of going cold turkey.

I will however, bow to accepted protocol and join the ranks of fellow Swiss drivers who feel badge removal really does make a difference. I'm sure I'll understand one day.
