| | | Not enough time to contest speeding ticket
I've just received a speeding ticket in the post for 250 CHF dated 20th Sep but received on 1st Oct. I know I have 10 days to contest this but I only received this on 1st Oct so it's too late to contest it and the incident took place on 4th Sep 2012 so I can't even remember what I was doing last week let alone last month.
I've taken this on the chin and paid up so it's out of my intray and my mind.
Furthermore, I believe I got caught from a mobile camera on a 30 km road and I've heard that having a camera detection device in the vehicle is illegal in CH but is there a website where one can see where all the fixed cameras are or a forum where one is notified of any mobile speeding cameras in operation. Perhaps we could start a thread here pre-warning motorists.
Finally, do people still think that speed cameras are used for safety reasons or it's just another money making scheme?

Aren't most cameras here preceded by a sign warning of their prescence?

mobile cameras are not.
for the OP, you could have asked for a photo, I ALWAYS ask as i know of at least 3 cases of a plate mis read. its also good to stick up on the wall
there are 2 trains of thought regarding cameras.... have them visible at accident areas and areas that need enforcement
hide them so you never know where they are and then you might think twice about speeding / pay more attention.
my view is its a cash generator

| | | Re: Not enough time to contest speeding ticket http://www.scdb.info/en/, waze, and trapster will show you were the cameras are. Mobile cameras are not always up to date --as they are mobile --but since the spots are usually similar you may have some luck.
keep in mind that if you get stopped the police can take your GPS and your phone if you have cameras on it --that is what I have heard at least.

It's common in France to be so warned, but I've never seen it in CH. Apart from generic signs, of course, but not actually anywhere near any particular camera.

Did you know that on a 30Km road, pedestrians have right-of-way and 30Km limits are normally put up on these roads as they are either near schools or in residential areas where children commonly play in the street?
If you got the fine in my road - then I'm partly to blame as we're always complaining to the Police about people driving much faster than the 30Km limit and they appear to be actively following this up.

More than 11-15 km/h over the limit plus the bit they let you get away with (5 km/h?).

Most likely 50 on the clock. Just a few kilometers more and it would have gone in front of a judge.
Pedestrians do not have the right of way or any priorities over vehicles in a 30km/h zone. Pedestrians have the priority in a "Shared Zone" which will have a 20km/h limit and is marked with Sign 2.59.5 only Art. 22b SSV | Quote: | | | | Sign 2.59.5 | | | | | @OP: I do not think your time to complain was over. The 10 days starts once the letter was in your mail box and not earlier. For furter reference here is a leaflet that explains what will happen when you contest a fine in Zurich City.
PS: 50 km/h insteat of 30km/h means nearly tripple the breaking distance!

The 30Km zone sign (2.59.1) identifies roads must in neighborhoods or residential areas, which are moved to special care and consideration. The speed limit is 30 km / h
