Learning Driving in Zurich

Hi

I just got my learner's permit and is anxious to look for a driving instructor. Does anyone know a good driving instructor in Zurich (Thalwil / Horgen) region?

Does anyone know what the minimum number of classes required before taking a driving test?

Last and not least, does anyone know of a good space to practice driving without being a bother to the real road users?

Starting and stopping can be practiced on a big parking place. This one is nearly empty on weekends. Once you master it (after an hour or so) you have to hit the road. About bothering other road users, you have your blue "L" on the back.

Re: Learning Driving in Zurich

Hi there

I got my learners permit about 2 months ago & I'm happy to help you - I've been there

So, to answer to your questions:

1. Driving teacher: my driving teacher is just simply what you need. He speaks English & he is endlessly patient. He is just wonderful and after your first drive with him you'll know what I'm talking about. Here is his website: http://www.dfahrschuel.ch/home.htm - my teacher's name is Timo. Don't hesitate to call immediately.

2. As far as I know (& that is 99.99% - information from August 2012) in Switzerland there is NO mandatory number of driving lessons you have to do. It's all up to you - to take or not to take an instructor. The fact is you can't learn on your own the rules. I mean, ofcourse you can, but it'll last looooooonger....

3. A place to practice... I live in Bonstetten & close to my house there is a factory. On Saturday evening and Sunday noone is there working, so all the space is free to drive around. It's not huge, but it's enough to start somewhere where there is no traffic.
I don't know for that area around you - sorry.

I hope this helped you at least a bit.
Let me know if you need any help more.

Hi

Does anyone know a good English-speaking driving instructor to prepare for the driving test in the Kusnacht/Herrliberg/Meilen area?

Many thanks

" Here is his website: http://www.dfahrschuel.ch/home.htm - my teacher's name is Timo. "

DO NOT CALL THIS GUY!!!!!!!

Ok , so this is the latest thing I am glad to have experienced on my own skin: this driving teacher is a "RIP-OFF", a fraud! So sad to say this, but it is true. Shortly, I paid more than 20 lessons, drove them & suddenly the teacher didn't appear on the next scheduled drive. He didn't return my phone calls, sms, email. I was totally confused, until the day when I went to a VKU course. There the teacher named few driving instructors who are known for their strategy of: get the money, drive a lot & then don't reply any more. Things were almost clear then. Finally, I called the "fraud" instructor from another phone & he picked up immediately. He was excusing and saying he never got any sms, email or a phone call from me...

My point is: it is sad that there are instructors out there pretending wanting to help you, but just want your money. So, at least one is now known. I had to share this with you all & correct me answer to this question.

p.s. Since now I need I new driving teacher, I'm going to share this with you all: I was recommended to call Mike. This is his website: http://www.psychomike.ch/

He is for sure a great teacher. I still didn't call him. I don't have time to drive now. Surely I will soon & I'll keep you posted how it is.

Re: Learning Driving in Zurich

We live in Thalwil. I and my husband took driving lessons from this person http://lets-l-drive.ch/ and we both passed Kontrollfahrt successfully recently, so we can recommend this teacher.
